Recommended Posts

The September Young Stars rookie tournament in Penticton has been cancelled by the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets due to "logistical" issues.

Booo the first casualty of the CBA negotiations. th_shrug.gif

Yup...

There has been almost been an active avoidance of talking about a possible work stoppage... but i think its all but a certainty to occur.

Players are back up to 57ish%! pre-lockout numbers. Up because of the escalators they agreed upon. Fantastic deal for the players, very short-sighted one by the owners... but they had to do it to get the hard cap in place.

I don't see any way the negotiations go so smoothly that the schedule isn't at all effected.

Owners need to get the player's percentage down, and players spearheaded by Fehr will be looking to maintain. Unlike last lockout, you don't hear a peep from the players acknowledging there is any sort of problem with the present economic state of the game.

It's a lot more subtle this time around and that's going to be a PR challenge for the owners.. unlike last time where fans were on the owners side.

The lockout this fall... will blindside a lot of fans this time around, as many are of the mindset 'they would be stupid to lockout the players again, no way they do it'...

Sad to think some players will see 2 seasons of their careers effected by work stoppages.

The number of players that lost a PRIME performance yr (and more significantly a prime EARNING yr) the first time around - must of been a tough pill to swallow for players...

look no further than Iginla who had just turned 27 going into the last one.

This time around...

The biggest dogs losing the most money (salaries are for 11-12, but gives you an idea)...

Richards $12mil

Vinny, Bryz, Erhoff $10mil

Malkin, Crosby, Ovechkin $9mil

Chara $8.5

Spezza, Heatley, Keith, Thornton, Stamkos $8mil

Hossa, Zetterberg, Staal, Gomez, Gaborik, Nash, Koivu, Campbell, Iginla, Briere, Seabrook, Bieksa, Wisniewski $7-7.9 mil

These guys at least know they'll eventually get their money... it's the lower salaried players that will feel the most pressure..

Sadly this is one topic we agree on.

I doubt we see a puck drop until late November or early December at best.
