  1. Unlike Wilson's questionable treatment by DPS, there is no involvement by the offended player (Coleman) leading up to the hit. It wasn't retaliation that you could factor in. It was either a clean or dirty hit. He lined up the player for half the width of the ice and delivered the hit. He's having a hearing, so I doubt this is a fine. Who knows though.
  2. There are valid business reasons for trading Gio. Tough decision to make. We let Brodie go for nothing, and there wasn't this much division about it. Not saying it's right or wrong to do, but you have to look at what makes the team better and not always decide based on nostalgia. Some have questioned his leadership or leading the team on the ice. Others have said you sometimes have to make moves before the value drops to zero. Others have said he's a lifelong Flame and should be here as long as he wants to play. Overall, there are very few teams that don't make these decisions every year.
  3. An NCAA player doesn't even get to come to a development camp unless he pays for it himself. We have little control of his development prior to signing. Fox found the way to play for the team he wanted to sign with. He managed to do it without playing 4 years in college. That is pretty unusual. Wouldn't play here, wouldn't play in NC.
  4. It's unfortunate that Bennett's emotions sometimes get the better of him. I missed the hit, so have no real opinion on whether it was suspension worthy, but DPS is suspect at best.
  5. The 2015 draft, oh yes. Kevin Lebanc, the guy just ahead of Mangiapane for 2nd in points with the Colts, also went in the 6th round. Almost double the point of Lemieux, who went the year before in the 2nd round. It seems like scouts spent too much time watching the top players. Seems like not a lot were watching Barrie games. Then again, they were a very top heavy team, with 5 players (including Ras) scoring the majority of the goals). Two of them were previously drafted.
  6. Hanifin-Ras was our best pairing in the playoffs last year. Gio-Ras was our worst pairing this year. That's just my opinion I guess. When they moved Ras to Hanifin, it seemed to help him. It could just be a case of following Gio's lead or deferring to him. I've watched both players do exactly the same thing when they have the puck on the boards with pressure coming; they turn into the boards instead of looking for an escape route.
  7. Funny how 3 of our best players are from the 2nd or 6th round. Mangiapane is the most efficient 5v5 scorer we have. Has been for some time. I can't say how I would structure a roster around them, but at least they should be focal points for BT. Personally, I would be exploring a Hanifin-Ras top pairing. And if anything, Mange should be top 6. Dube suffered a bit from top line play when Tkachuk was struggling. But that speed and skill is just lurking below the surface.
  8. Nothing changed for us tonight. We are still 10th, draft 11th. Nucks stay at 6th last, drafting 7th. Nucks can end up 9th by winning the last two. We can end up behind CHI by getting 3 points in two games. The only upside is ARI has no pick, so we only lose a spot if we pass CHI. The lotto odds are worse for us if we pass ARI, though. An ARI lotto win is a re-draw. To sum it up, we lose if we win. We already ruined getting a better pick than VAN.
  9. All you need to say, the rest is noise. Try using the entire quote to make a point, instead of using one line and making it fit your argument. Better yet, just quit quoting and just post your opinion on it's own.
  10. You missed my point. Who on the Flames was effective in the playoffs? So, you expect him to rise above every other player on his line, where he is by trade a passer? Maybe if there were options to use him in the playoffs, it might be another story. I'm not saying don't trade the player. What I am saying is that a chance at a good player in a draft is not a good enough return.
  11. Probably because we had overspent as it was. What would we do with a RHS D-man? Besides we signed a LHS LD to play RD.
  12. Who is effective in the post season? If you play Gaudreau against a top line that limits his options or forces him to defend, he's not going to do much.
  13. You can make changes if values are threre. I don't know if he actually said that or it was reported by media as something he was considering.
  14. I got what you meant, just that you are not likely to hear anything. In Buffalo, do you know what to expect? And that's with a team where two top players have basicially severed their ties with the team. As the summer goes on, you may have a better idea. A lot of things can and will happen between now and then. Expansion draft, pre draft trades, FA, teams not trading during the playoffs that will make changes.
  15. Yeah, only 18m over the cap with miraculous ecoveries just in time for the playoffs but not before the cap matters. Funny how a player can't play a single dame until the payoffs.
  16. Bennett with the first FLA goal and they wave it off. What a joke call. Very much a Bennett playoff goal.
  17. Except that Ritchie has never been a 20 goal scorer. Hathhaway is closer to Maroon, but not really that close.
  18. Every draft year is different. Teams with multiple picks will change the complexion of the draft. The lotto will change some things. The fact that Seattle gets a protected 3rd overall changes it. What the perennial rebuilding teams do depends on what they did in other years. Even in this draft, the cost to move up will be prohibitive. Just assuming for a moment you had traded Gaudreau for a 1st, what do you expect to get for a late pick? It would have had to be last summer and lucky to get a lotto team. Philly might have made the playoffs with Gaudreau. Trade him this summer? Ok, that doesn't much help our team in the next 3-5 years. Drafting good to great players helps, but not the only way to turn into a contender. Maybe one of those top 4 D will be franchise players, but the chances drop in finding one unless we move up. Same is true for picking a goalie. In fact, probably worse, since our goalie development sucks. Better to clean house and pick up additional picks next year, We should probably clean house anyway, since scouting could be an issue as well.
  19. Isn't that suggesting Bennett and Gaudreau for a first?
  20. I've got no issue with Ricthie as an extra forward. Insert him in the lineup for a low scoring game where you need a guy to fight someone or make a big hit. He's not going to win you a game against EDM. Our bottom 6 had Lucic and Backlund that could score. That's about it. And they were tasked with shutting down the league's best (North at least). Besides Tampa's best forwards playing their best, they also had an absolute stud D that scored insanely. That's not a Gio getting one or two goals. Maybe if the Flames target Seth Jones, that would help with size and grit. A bigger guy that can handle big players. If they can sign or trade for decent bottom 6 players, sure. It's possible that Ruzicka could be an effective bottom 6 guy, but not as a gritty guy. Pospisil is more in that Hathaway mold. Probably not capable of a lot of scoring, but gritty.
  21. I'm not sure what you expect a GM to tell you. Did he say that he wasn't going to accept an anchor from a team for a good player. Sharks were swimming aorund looking for vctims this year. You want him to tell you he's trading Monahan or Tkachuk or Gio or Gaudreau or Lindholm? Seems like a weird way to run a business. Tell everyone what your plans are so the fans know what you are going to do. The market will determine what direction he goes in. Setting up fan expectations is a recipe for disaster. You will know by the end of FA and the start of the season what pieces are the new core and what we have added to take a step forward.
  22. If any of those 4 you talk about are available, then fine. Even if they go later, they are still off the board when time comes for us. Even if teams are dumb, they can still evaluate talent. At least one team will draft on position. Another will use moneyball. Trading Gaudreau and Bennett for FLA's 1st? That's sad.
  23. Agree with the bolded. Barclay and Maroon accounted for one goal each. Coleman is big for a guy less than 6', but he is not a bottom 6 player on most teams. Then again, a team with a cap hit of $98m can probably choose to use many methods to have top 6 players paid and played as bottom 6. I don't think you can look at last year's success and say the only thing they did was get guys to do the dirty work. Onto this team. We lack players that do everything they can to win. We had 2 players that block close to 2 per game, and only 3 others that did it more than 1 per game. Stone was one of them. This includes guys that PK every night. How is that possible? Backlund and Ryan had 20 all season. If you aren't doing that, then you better be leading somewhere else.
  24. The only thing that passing CHI does is lower our odds in the lotto. Really just one draft position, but lower odds with both CHI and ARI in there. If ARI wins, it's a redo. Some have Cossa at 24 or later. Would you be that comforatable?
  25. I don't trust Button at all. I think he gets some thing close to right, but I find he gets star struck too often. Falls for somthing and completely thows away any oother evidence. Below is a more balanced list: https://flamesnation.ca/2021/04/21/2021-nhl-draft-consensus-ranking-april/ Overall, I would say the top 10 is reasonable, not necessarily the right order. You look at Craig's list (name alone should make you pause LOL), and L'Heureux is 8th? I don't trust the Q unless they are a standout. I'm sure teams will gladly trade you a first this year for a 1st next year. Other than that we aren't getting any low ones for a song. And it's not a rebuild so you won't see Gaudreau for a late first (extra for some teams).
