  1. I never got the hate for Kostco. He was solid last year and one of the only reasons they managed to make the playoffs. Sure, Smith came in and did a great job to finish the season and the playoffs, but they would have been eliminated by December unless Kostco was there. Is Skinner even close to the level of Kostco, their #2 goalie. Not even close. He may be able to win some games, but he never faced quality opponents last year. Soup was on the same trajectory as Markstrom for part if the season, without the shutouts and stealing games. Both were playing well behind solid D. Marky was a MVP, while Soup was darn good. Soup was only good up to the 40 game point at most. That might even be generous.
  2. Meh, I don't see Campbell as an upgrade to the combo of Koskinen and Smith. They may have an equivalent to a full year of Smith, but their backup is nothing.
  3. I think there are some moving pieces not even mentioned. Kadri was step 1. Monahan going to MTL is step 2, but that still leaves MTL with cap issues. We could take salry back if the player coming from MTL could be moved to a 3rd team. In theory, no 1st going out. We also have an excess of D that could be used to offset.
  4. That's really all you can look at. What is Tkachuk's future as a hockey player? What will become of Gaudreau. I don't think they are superstars outside the Flames environment. So, we would have decresing assets in the two of them, possibly not getting back to the level of last year (almost certainly). So, we have two players that can be the nucleus of two lines. Which we sorely lacked, even though Mange was able to score at will for part of the year. We now have two scoring lines and a Backlund line.
  5. As much as I thought we weren't going to be able to win a bid for Kadri, I was secretly hoping for a major piece coming back in. Lose two wingers, gain a top winger and a top C. Not bad. The Monahan move was expected by many and makes sense anyway. There wasn't enough evidence that he could recover and be a top 6 winger, which we needed. I just hope that he can be a decent C for them and get a new deal. Hope we didn't have to sweeten the pot too much.
  6. I believe that he is too young to play in AHL. We could invite him to camp and sign him to a NHL deal
  7. Stanky was a miss and most on the draft thread were pleading that we take him. And some were talking about Red Savage.
  8. I was thinking perhaps Valimaki for Sandin. Doesn't really help the roster situation, since both must go through waivers. But, I would be more comfortable then trading Hanifin for a forward.
  9. I always felt this was too close to the Bulls logo. Never really cared for it. Hard pass for me.
  10. Which year? Hall Nuge Yak The good ones: Mackinnon Ekblad McD Matthews The next tier: Hischier Dahlin Hughes Unknown: Lafrenier Power Lafrowsky
  11. No, he plays on RW. He may rove to a different ide, but he mostly comes up the right side, that I have seen.
  12. Okay, I get the idea of a free pick. So, you know we invited people to the Young Stars classic?
  13. Might want to ignore the first list, as every single one was drafted in 22. Any of the guys in the 2nd list turn your crask? None of them really stand out.
  14. He's not getting the love that others are, even on his own team. Mazar is leading with goals (I think), but Coronato is always out there pushing the play. I think he needs a couple of years in college to get his scoring dialed in.
  15. They signed Brook to a PTO, but also signed him to an AHL deal. RHS D. Kuz also has played a lot on RD. By NHL experience, Meloce has more recent experience, and not that many less than Valimaki. I do think Sutter values both Meloche and Mackey over Valimaki, even if the latter has a higher ceiling. I almost expect a trade of Valimaki at some point this summer.
  16. ^^^^ Don't forget about the offside reviewed hoal with an assist on his perfect pass to James.
  17. I think we have to play Monahan with a playmaker; it's the only way he's going to pot 20+. He's never been much of an assist guy. That leads me to your #2, which is the need for a playmaking 2C. A cheaper version of Kadri if you like. Allows you to use either Mange or Toffoli on that line and not force them into a defensive play style. Perhaps a line of Pelletier-Rodrigues-Toffoli would be best suited. A playmaker, a shooter and a guy that has played with good players. This would allow you to use Monahan on Backlund's wing. He can take O-zone draws to spell off Backlund. The other wing is Coleman. This also saves Rozie for the 4th line, or an alt for Monahan on Backlund's wing. 4th line could then be Lucic/Ruzicka-Rooney/Ruzicka-Lewis/Dube. I would look at two possible options for the 4th line; one is the beefy line, the other is a speed line. Lucic-Rooney-Lewis is beefy. Rooney-Ruzicka-Dube is faster. I realize this doesn't put Dube in a good spot. The unknown health of Monahan probably puts Dube in MOnahan's spot with Backlund, and he can switch sides with Coleman. It's really difficult to project, since Monahan is an unknown and Dube really only plays RW really well. If we don't go after Rodriguez, I would think it's almost better to use Dube with Valimaki or even Hanifin to bring in a higher end 2C.
  18. I think he plays LW with Eichel and Stone. Not a bad target, but I think they value him pretty highly. He has a career year last year with 21g 43a.
  19. TBH, I am not even sure how the "actual" salary works in a retention. I was presuming for a minute that we retained about 1/2 his cap, which should be $500k of actual, but since he had a bonus of $3M, don't even know how that works. Since EDM retained $750k, I think the max we could is 50% of $5.25M. Anyway, I doubt we find a taker this year, and the value of free cap space (if we got any) is only useful if you use it now or it allows you to replace short term injuries. Considering that Valimaki may get waived for the roster spot, we actually have a decent amount of cap as it is. Without considering Valimaki, we have $2.5M minus the salary for Rozie. If we replace Valimaki with Mackey or Meloche, we gain another $500k. That includes Monahan and Pelletier. So, around $2M as it is. If we are considering trading Hanifin or Kylington, likely the salary coming back is a wash. Trading either for a pick doesn't make a lot of sense.
  20. At best, we are looking at a hold your nose trade. We got him when we traded Neal. Shouldn't really expect anything other than a hold your nose trade. If BOS was willing to trade Debrusk or Smith, it's because they want them gone and haven't been able to make any deals. Lucic is more apt to retire than being traded. We are not paying a team to take him so they can reach the cap floor. He can choose to play out his contract, and if anything sign a smaller deal next season to stay. That may be highly unlikely unless Sutter re-ups. On the retirement kick, Looch has got his bonus, so this season is playing for $1M. We don't really need his cap space unless we are signing Kadri. I find it unlikely we do. But that's just me. Not the worst idea in the world, but it creates cap problems this and next year to start. Means we have to move Hanifin just to have future cap, since Monahan only fixes this year.
  21. First Ryan Leslie, then Weekes, now this guy.
  22. I don't know what's up with that. Maybe fishing for clicks. Since Rask's wedding, the rumors seems to come and go.
  23. I mean sure, why not. He's a RFA with rights, so they have to do it soon.
  24. Are they not already under contract in the Swiss league?
