  1. I think you need to dig a little deeper into the stats to see why he is 29 and had one breakout season. Only has two NHL seasons where he player more than 70 games. Did the full 4 years in BC. Played in Buffalo. He isn't my first choice, but you get him for just salary. He doesn't work out, you waive him and have no penalty. Find a RHS C out there you can get for Hanifin that is worth the money.
  2. I would consider Dube or Hanifin to get better. Like moving Hanfin for a bigger top 6 winger. Or Dube for a similar ceiling player that plays a different style. Depends on the player coming back.
  3. Milano is potentially a puck distributor and I would be okay with a PTO. Rodriguez can play RW and is a RHS, which is kinda the point. I have high hopes for Ruzicka, but I would prefer to see him learn with Backlund (as a LW) or play on a scoring line (as a C).
  4. There is no way a team gives up a 1st to reduce a salary like Hall. PLD or Laine possibly. A lot of the TDL deals include 2nds or later, depending on the value and the player involved.
  5. Look at some of the older players out there. Kane, Statsny, Pavelsky.... Are you thinking they are 3rd liners? They have had career years and really good yers over the age of 30. Sometimes you just need the right fit to excel. Sometimes players are ageless. We have picks over the next few years except of 1 x 1st, to be named later. It's not a lotto pick.
  6. EDM is saying we are worse than before, that we have one year or so, that they still have a better team than us. They beat us to a pulp, so nothing changes that. A Pooly trade where he becomes a 30 goal guy would send them over the edge. Well, we could send them Valimaki and they also retain $750k for Pooly. After all, they still owe us for getting the Real Deal for Lucic.
  7. No reason why he doesn't use 91. Maybe that's why Hubie didn't take it?
  8. I would say Vegas had it worse. But I have no sympathy for Vegas. Montreal self inflicted some f their pain. Trade Sergachev for Drouin. Maintain that players have to be French Canadian. Not all of course, but it puts them in a unique position. They were drooling over Huberdeau possibly being available.
  9. I think they are willing to give him one year in the NHL and roll the dice. But, he also is the most expendable player currently listed on the roster. Can't bury him without losing $500k to cap. Can't afford a 8th D, just to have him get games in. Possibly Meloche >> Mackey >> Valimaki. Not 100% sure, but I think Sutter would feel that way.
  10. Flames are risk intolerant, if that ever becomes close to an issue. I do think Sutter has less of a favorable view of Dube that we do mostly here. He has been a lightening rod at times for Sutter's views. Anyway, didn't really want to talk about it, just suggesting that ER vs DD is not currently a big difference. Sutter likes guys he can flex.
  11. Has to be Hanifin or Valimaki. Valimaki waived and replaced by Mackey is a wash cap wise. Hanifin allow us to add a $5M or less player.
  12. Huberdeau-Lindholm-Toffoli Mangiapane-Kadri-Rodriguez Ruzicka-Backlund-Coleman Lucic-Rooney-Lewis Pelletier Pelletier draws in for Lucic at times, or Takes Ruzicka's spot on LW, while Ruzie could draw in as a C or LW on the 4th line. For the D, I think it's fairly likely that Weegs is top pair with Ras. Hanifin or Kylington play with Tanev. The minutes will be mostly equal between the Tanev and Zadorov pairs. I subtracted Dube for a particular reason and I won't go into it.
  13. I don't have a problem with guys that under performed in a league, as long as it's not part of a trend. For instance, Pelletier has always managed to step up to the league he played in. You don't want a guy going from one league to a tourney and just doing well there. Puljujarvi looked like the 2nd coming, until he wasn't. And he was a top rated player. Tye Raty looked like a start in EDM, during camp and pre-season. How many of those do you really want to sign. If we are not going to sign Rodriguez, then he's prime for a PTO offer. Same with Milano. I know that goes against taking shots at potential boom/busts, but it is what it is. The players are generally scouted a lot, so reasons for not drafting them are not always size or a poor season.
  14. You me both. I think it would need a player going out t make it work. Valimaki fits the bill. Unfortunate. Maybe it's not needed, but you have to think it makes the most sense.
  15. Valimaki is excess at one position. Dube trade and signing Rodrigues would be a neutral trade with whatever Dube brought back being the value. Plus the saved cap. I'm not saying ER is the solution or Dube is a problem, but the moves make some sense. Lack of RHS.
  16. That includes Pelletier and Ruzie as the 13th leaving about a million. But we are using 1.5 on Valimaki. Or we are subtracting Hanifin from the cap,
  17. I believe it opened up after our last arbitration case was settled, which was Mange, right? Monahan was not able to be bought out. TBH, BT is a master of the cap and buyouts, so he goes for the one that works. If it's not there, it's not even mentioned. If it is, you see blogs about it. Too bad we had Feaster way back when.
  18. I think we are still a move away, at the least. The FA is fine for tinkering or getting a prize, but need to move out sometimes to make room. I think BT is too fond of his new players and drafted assets to let Meloche and/or Valimaki go to the wire. Would rather get something instead of a chance of losing for nothing. Even if it's a low chance. I'm not sure we need to move Hanifin for a top 6 wing, but it is there. Valimaki for a young bottom 6 winger? Maybe. You have to even wonder whether Dube is on the clock.
  19. I expect they want him to work on being a C by being usable elsewhere, like LW. Maybe he fits with Backlund. Maybe he's more useful with Kadri?
  20. I wasn't aware of one that actually amounted to a player coming back.
  21. It's really a legal out, since you can't trade a player for nothing. You could say it was for a bag of pucks or a free car wash. Same value.
  22. Need a book to keep track of that pick. But, we didn't take a cent back in the trade and get Kadri for the equivalent of a conditional 1st. We paid more for Toffoli. Slightly less for Jarnkrok.
  23. There are moving parts. Monahan isn't going to block a move unless it's a crap team. I think there is a piece coming back and something going on with a 3rd team. May include Valimaki. What if it was Monahan + Valimaki for Dvorak? Maybe that includes a pick that is currently conditional (like 2025).
