I recall that it was Ken Linesman who was instrumental in lowering the draft eligibility from 20 to 18.

Wouldn't he be an import and an over-ager in the CHL next season?
If so, that would take up 2 roster spots.
In that case, I'd bet on him playing overseas for a year.

I am absolutely thrilled that the Flames are going to be in the play-offs.
The goaltending can always be better, but I personally don't have a favourite for the play-offs, nor will I over worry if both of them have to be used during the run.

I counted 24 jersey jabs, 10 rights and 4 lefts thrown by Gabriel, 19 rights thrown by Lucic.
Neither of them landed every punch, but I feel that Gabriel made Lucic appear rather unimpressive.

I knew that Howard had a good glove but until watching those highlights, I didn't realize that he uses that forward flop so often, something that many criticize Smith for doing.

I think that the Oilers are currently benefiting from the "new coach bump".
Usually, Hitchcock likes to have his teams play a strong defensive game and the Oilers just aren't built for that style of hockey.
I expect to see their play drop off again before 2019 begins.

Does anyone on this board feel that Calgary's City Council has disclosed enough reliable financial information to allow you to make an informed choice on Calgary's Olympic bid?
Personally, I'd love to vote YES on the Olympic plebiscite.
I immensely enjoyed the 1988 Winter Olympics.
Never in my life have I felt as much pride in my City, Province, and Country as during those magical days.
But I'm feeling that the current City Council is being much too secretive on the details, and as a taxpayer, I'm not willing to just write a blank cheque to them.
Unfortunately, If they do not release more unbiased financial figures before the election, I'll probably vote NO.

Personally, I don't put much weight on David Rittich's play as a starter last season.
That's last year and I feel that he has improved.
I would feel comfortable trying him out as the 1A or 1 B goaltender for the rest of this season.
There are at least 5 or 6 veteran goalies who will all be UFAs after this season.
If it does not work out, perhaps BT has to find a new goalie during this season, though I'd prefer he manages to sign one as a UFA, on or soon after July 1, 2019.

I'd start Rittich in Chicago and San Jose.
Historically, Smith plays well against Anaheim (last game excepted) and LA, and there is enough rest between games for him.

Over the next few drafts, I feel that the Flame's will as usual go for the BPA.
All else being equal though, I think that they will concentrate on defense-men and goalies before forwards.
I don't see enough Top prospects at either position in the current cupboard.

Brodie, Hamonic, and Stone will all be UFAs at the end of 2019/2020.
They'll all be 30 years of age, or very close to it.
I'm going to guess that only one will be re-signed (Brodie or Hamonic), and that the other two will be traded no later than their final season's TDL.
I expect that two of Andersson, Kylington, and Valamaki will be full-time Flame's defense-men by that time.

New computer, new OS, haven't figured out all of the changes yet.
I'm seeing everything in bold and in italics.
I'm wanting to post in neither.

I don't see any potential all-stars in the list above, but I do see some potentially serviceable NHL players.
These are my expectations on the optimistic side.
Valamaki - Top 4 D
Andersson - Top 4 D
Kylington - Bottom 4 D
Dube - Middle 6 centre/winger.
Foo - Middle 6 winger.
Mangiapane - Bottom 6 winger
Klimchuk - Bottom 6 winger

During Treliving's tenure, I feel that the Flame's drafting has improved a fair bit.
Whether that's due to BT, the scouts improving, or a new draft philosophy, it seems to be working.

Even If it's true that "it's purely ownership's' philosophy", I don't expect it to last too many more years.
The market will have risen substantially by the end of Giordano's contract (2021/2022).
Gaudreau will be a UFA when Gio's contract expires and Monahan will be one year away from the same.
I won't be surprised if someone on the team is making over $7M per season by then.

Kulak was a lot more poised than I had expected him to be in his first full season.
To me, he did not look out of place at all on the third pairing.
It would not surprise me if he ended up becoming a solid, second pairing NHL defence-man in a few years.
