Different gear
Helps solve the goalie question in the minors. Highly doubt the Hitmen trade for him if he was going pro. Also means he's likely to start for the Hitmen who I believe are losing their starter this year.
Reading between the lines I think Clouston in the Hat lost faith in Schneider last year. I hope not too much damage was done to the kids confidence. Is this the Flames exerting a bit of pressure to keep an eye on an asset?

The big $s doesn't apply unless he's bought out. Otherwise the 2 remaining years on his contract (5.75 in cap & real $s) apply.

Does anyone think we should offer the Hero of France a 2 year, 2 way contract? He's 33 & I don't know much about him other than this IIHF Worlds but his play against Finland & now Canada impresses. Florian Hardy is of course the 1 I mean. Due to the short seasons in Europe he might be an off the wall pickup for backup.
Best case we get a late bloomer like Thomas. Worst case we send him to the ECHL on the cheap.
In last years IIHF world cup one goalie that stood out for me was Mikko Koskinen. I know he had 4 games on on a pretty terrible NYI team but wondered if he would ever get the chance to play over here again

I'm with sticking with what we have got for next season so young tenders get more pro experience in AHL/ECHL
So to me there is no benfit in gambloing 6M a year for Bishop.
another good article suggesting Pengies should be our target http://www.flamesfrom80feet.ca/2017/05/poached-from-pittsburgh-why-its.html

Great interview.
Thanks for the link

Like what I've seen from Stone so far.
Less so Bartowski. He seems to have one brain fart a game behind the net and gives the puck up or loses it in his feet. But hey thats about 6 brian farts less than Wideman so I can live with it.

I think you have to look at the goalie coach.
He arrived in August 2014.
3 years and 4-5 goalies not playing to their potential. You could argue Hiller was at the end of his career but Hiller had a .918% the first year with JS as goalie coach. Why did it plummet to .875%? Did he suddenly become a non NHL calibre goalie. Hiller is still only 34 and his NHL stats have been pretty consistent throughout his career and he avgs .917%
Ramo's sv% did not alter much in his 3 years here.
.911% year before JS
.912% 1st year JS
.909% 2nd year JS
Can it be that he has just been unlucky and all his charges have stunk the place out?
Would also ask how many of his charges whilst he was in coach of our farm team for 3 years have made it to the bigs?
Not trying to give the goalies a free ride from their current form. They are both old enough to know better. After all CJ had a stellar patch a few weeks back and we all loved his play.
-
Okay, when does the goalie coach become accountable?

With our goaltending woes this season how much of it should be pinned on the goaltender coach?
The first goal Ortio gave up against the Blues the other night was so Hiller like that my first thought was this a coaching issue.
-
We're rebuilding. That's why I think we should be looking at our younger goaltenders.
What younger goalies would that be then?
Gillies - injurend
MacDonald - CHL
Schenider - CHL
and none of those are going to be with the big club next season and probably not until 18/19.
Poulin perhaps?
Ortio has obviously been shelved by the Flames. Not sure he would want to resign anyways.

I don't understand the non love for Russell on these boards
This guy is on a great contract. Has proven time and again through Junior and Senior that you don't need to be 6'4 to play D.
He is so under rated on the Flame boards. I would have in our top 4 for a long time. Ship out Wideman, Smid Engeland first. I think it would be a big mistake getting shot of Russell.
-
The dman that impressed me lots this year in opposition colours was Roman Josi of the Preds. Would love to see him in Flames uniform. But wishful thinking never got us anywhere.
I think we return this years D core and add Schlemko to the mix. Let Smid go. Diaz seemed to get better as the season progressed. Not convinced Potter brings anymore than Wotherspoon.
-
Been impressed with Schlemko. He picked up his minutes in last game was +2 and looks deserving of a contract.
-
I'm not sold on Ortio from what I've seen so far.
But there are more qualified people than me on the Flames staff that will make the right call. So I'll leave it to them.
-
David Shelmko off Waivers to the list?

Russell only blocked 2 shots? Lazy bum, ship him out!!
Wideman and Russell have stepped up big time. Trust they can continue the worload.
Brodie's ice time quite a bit down.
-
Russell looked like he blocked one shot too many last night. I know he came back but he did not look comfortable. Any news on Calgary Radio/Papers on his status?
-
Just watched the game and I thought Engellend had a real good game. Kept is simple and let Brodie do his stuff.
Let's hope he can keep it up.
Like to see how Schlemko does. Not sure if he paired with Russell when on the Tigers and I guess they won't break up Wideman/Russell though it does seem strange to have 2 A's out on the same D shift.
Not that the A's have to talk to the ref's much nowadays.
-
I got to say no.
Don't like the contract.
From limited times I've watched the Laughs he seems to a floater, whiner, diver and prima donna.
Let him languish with TML
-
Just watched the game
Cannot blame Berra for this loss.
Possibly the 3rd goal being should have been saved but the rest he had little chance on.
Impressed with his calmness and for a big goalie he does not seem to flop around. Also when he stick handles I do not feel the panic that I do with Jmac or Ramo.
