  1. I mean it’s hard to be mad at the flames here. Kid tears his ACL during training and because of Covid missed a whole year and a half of development, his prime years to boot. I don’t think he ever 100% recovered from the injury and once he found out his game wasn’t the same his confidence went to hell. He was just never the same player post injury as pre. He was dynamic in junior and even though it was a small sample, was their best dman against Colorado in the playoffs that year. He never even flashed that after his injury. Sometimes you just get Satoshi Nakamoto luck. I feel awful for the guy.
  2. when you lose a player on waivers you get first rights to claim him back if he goes back on waivers. Once they do they would be able to send him down to the A.
  3. I think you will see Zohorna reclaimed by Pittsburgh so his flames career likely to be short lived im not expecting Valimaki to get claimed Won’t be shocked if he does but I think he clears. Don’t think teams are going to want his contract
  4. “Maintenance” is an interesting word for a guy who hasn’t played games in over a week
  5. Would suspect you will see Valimaki on waivers today
  6. It would expect Treliving is going to be working the phones hard this week. I don’t really care about preseason results or yhr veterans necessarily, but I think if your the flames brass your not thrilled with camp. There was an open wing spot in the top 9 and I don’t think anyone really claimed it. On top of that I here was a great opportunity on D and neither Mackey nor Valimaki laid claim to it either. Sutter alluded to this in his presser last night. Won’t surprise me if they work the phones hard and see what they can do. Varying levels of concern there but they should be concerns imo.
  7. Box score was misleading. Flames actually played a decent game and where the better team for most of it. Their intensity was that of a pre season game while I think the Jets looked like a team playing a regular season game. attention to detail needs to improve. Thought the defense was actually good the issue was backtracking in the neutral zone. Guys weren’t finding their man so Jets not only had easy entires but they had a wide open middle of the ice to drop it back too. 2 goals resulted off of this. Very correctable. Markstrom defiantly wasn’t sharp either. All in all not nearly as bad as it looked imo. I don’t really expect a good start for the flames but the kinks are slowing being ironed out. The positives: while Pp didn’t score the top unit has some great puck movement. Puck was flying around. Top line is gaining chemistry. Had several nice plays and of course the goal was something else. What a play by Huberdeau Toffoli looked pretty good. Kadri is going to add some much needed speed in the middle. Dube was the hardest working playing on the ice and getting under the skin of the jets. not so positives: Zohorna doesn’t like like an NHLer to me. I thought Mackey struggled. No one is really jumping up to grap that spot. same can be said for Ruzicka. Would have liked to see a lot more intensity from the young players. I think this team is going to be fun to watch. Looking forward to it.
  8. Don't think the Flames can handle claiming anyone over 1 mill. They have some work just to get a cap compliant roster with some wiggle room for injuries' etc.
  9. Actually the response was the same. Good AAV, good value in the short term but let's see how it ages. Gio's deal aged very well, we shall see how Weegars does.
  10. Done deal. The term isn't great but this is incredible value for the short term.
  11. I definitely do not follow he logic of weakening your center position (which is quite a bit more valuable especially in Sutter's system) in order to strengthen your RW. Not a lot of logic there for me. If I were the coach I would be trying: Huberdeau - Kadri - Toffoli Mang - Lindhom -Dube Rooney - Backlund - Coleman Lucic - Ruzicka - Lewis Zahorna. Waive Ritchie Weegs - Tanev Anderson - Hanifin Valimaki - Zadorov Mackey Waive Meloche I don't sign Stone What I think they will do Huberdeau - Lindholm- Toffoli Mang - Kadri - Dube Rooney - Backs - Coleman Lucic - Lewis - Rooney Ruzicka Waive Zohorna Weegs - Tanev Anderson - Hanifin Zadorov - Stone (signed) Mackey Waive Meloche and Valimaki 2nd team is quite a bit more cap friendly.
  12. Too bad it didn't work out with Milano. Glad they didn't sign Eakin. Was a bit concerned they would.
  13. And also be reminded that it is pre season. Never mind the fact that it's a brand new top line trying to build chemistry these guys are just shaking the rust off. It's going to take time.
  14. I'm not nearly as worried about the wing depth/situation as the trend here is going. Toffoli was not near as bad last year as he's been made out to be and speed wont' be a problem with Huberdeau (who doesn't play as fast as Gaudreau). I actually think Toffoli has a good year this year because his fit on this team is much better than it was last year. The Flames top 6 looks fine to me. The problem for me is they need another option because they need to deepen their bottom 6 and push guys down the lineup, but I don't think this top 6 is going to lack punch.
  15. I agree. I think the Flames are going to have to work with what they have to find chemistry, build a pretty good top 6 and try and patch together a bottom 6 that doesn't get beaten up. I think they'll be find until the trade deadline when they'll have to shop for a top 9 winger. Sucks because they don't have a ton of picks to be aggressive like that but don't really have a choice.
  16. Usually if you pick up a player on waivers right now it's a player you've had your eye on for a while. Flames must feel he can help them. He doesn't look the profile of someone who can help them in their top 9 but beggars can't be chooser right now. Flames should be concerned about their forwards right now IMO. Their 3rd line doesn't look great and their 4th line looks like it's going to get beat up. At this point I will be very surprised if Milano is offered a contract. Sometime left for him to change their mind but it's not looking good for him. I also don't think he will be an AHL option for them they would just release him.
  17. I do too but I will admit bias I've been a fan of Dube since he was 16. I think there is always danger too in looking for the camp standout. I think that is a trap you get sucked into more often than not and we forget that these guys are getting thrown in situations they won't see in the regular season. Have to be careful drawing conclusions based on pre season games. Chuck Kobasew would have had a Rocket Richard if that was the case.
  18. Your right it was less than I thought. I knew it wasn't his primary line but the split was larger. That being said i think it goes past just being on his line or not, it also goes into quality of competition, line matching etc. What I was trying to say is IMO Barkov is the Panthers best player and Huberdeau coming over here will likely feel that. But again, i'm not trying to throw shade at Huberdeau.
  19. At the same time I personally don't think we'll see Huberdeau at over 100 pts away from Barkov either. That is no slight at Huberdeau at all either BTW.
  20. I don't think the deal is nearly as bad for the Panthers as people make it out to be or people just don't realize the cap hell the Panthers are in because of the Bobrovsky deal. They just re signed Knight and now go into next offseason with only 11 mill in cap room and only 16 players under contract. I think there was a reason that even before they put him in the Tkachuk deal, the Panthers were shopping Weegar because they know they can't re sign him next year. The Panthers picked cost certainty and got a future core piece for longer than they were going to have with Huberdeau. I'm surprised Treliving was still able to extract a pick out of the thing and the talent return for the Flames was still staggering, but I just don't think it's as lopsided as it appears on the surface given where Florida's roster and cap are at right now. Cost certainty and youth have value too.
  21. I also believe he had the same deal when he was the GM here.
  22. It really doesn't. The point is unless you know him personally you have no idea what he is thinking. So statements like "it's obvious he doesn't want to be here" is pure speculation and IMO useless. I see no value in basing on opinion or "worrying" about pure speculation. I can understand opinions or a discussion around if Weegar isn't signed by X date then i would trade him. I wouldn't personally and he won't be but I can understand that point of view. Trading a player based on baseless speculation (such as he doesn't want to be here) I don't and won't understand.
  23. Not sure I will ever understand why some are so quick to assume they know what players are thinking. Really no value there IMO.
  24. This logic works both ways thought. As crucial as we think they ae the team that has them feels the same way. Why would Florida entertain moving Barkov or Carolina Aho? the only way I think the Flames were getting a number 1 center in that deal was to take a flyer on prospect and of the teams that were on Tkachuk's list I don't see a number 1 center prospect.
