Kiprusoff Or Karlsson

A lot of people have different opinions and favourites in the world of hockey. With Kipper's play as of lately he's been in a slump and this has changed the way I think about him. He is a great NHL goalie, one of the best, but he is so melancholy. He shows absolutely no emotion, which could be bad for the team. The Flames aren't doing so well in the standings, and before Darryl Sutter quit, the dressing room was dull. Jay Feaster is encouraging them to show their emotions; to not be afr

Patience Or Realism, Which Is Needed?

The fans voiced their displeasure, the star goalie faced questions, and again the Flames suffered a loss in a big game. A game the Flames needed in order to remain on the 4 points in every 3 games pace the team believes will be required to make the playoffs. An ambitious goal for a team that has not been over .500 in months, but a goal that until last night the Flames were following perfectly. Coming back off an impressive road trip and some solid hockey, the Flames surprisingly look disinteres

Jay Feaster : Gm

With Jay Feaster as the acting general manager and Darryl Sutter out of a job, anything could happen depending on what Feaster thinks is best. I am happy that this occurred, but I am wondering why didn't this go down in the summer when Feaster could have made some trades and adjustments? I am in agreement with Eric Francis who wrote an article that in summary said that by signing Olli Jokinen, Sutter was the antagonist to his story of being a GM. Without the push from managem

Welcome Aboard Jay!

The axe has finally fallen, and the Flames have turned the page that fans had begun to scream for. Almost 8 years later, the tenure of General Manager Darryl Sutter has come to end and Jay Feaster takes over as the “acting” GM. I would like to start this by stating a Thank you to Darryl for all his hard work. This will look more toward his successor, not the past as I’ve written about that in the past. The attention turns to his successor, Jay Feaster who steps forward to try and deliver the

Tune Up On The Buffs

After playing a good hard and physical game against the Dallas Stars we need to fine tune our effort and try to make something similar against the Buffs. The Buffs will be down their leading goal scorer and we are coming off of a big win against the division leaders. Did I say win against the division leaders? For a team that struggles against the rest we sure like to show up and play against teams that have a good chance of coasting into the playoffs. I applaud the efforts of the Flames

Dear Santa,

Or should I say Dear Flames, I really do love you guys. I think that you guys are doing a great job and I love the effort. The one thing I want more than anything else this Christmas (or the rest of the season) is not for goals, not for wins, not for a miracle. What I want more than anything is for you guys to start hitting. I don't want fights. I want you to be aggressive against the other team. Every time I have seen a great game played by you guys I have seen you as aggressive. I se

The Defence Rests?

In the wake of yet another disappointing and listless effort from the Flames, positives are as rare to find as a Sutter supporter. I felt it was time to take a look at two positives the Flames have going for them, not only for this current team, but also for a rebuild should that be required. Perhaps no player has felt more heat, from this writer included, than Jay Bouwmeester. Bouwmeester represents the vision and direction of Darryl Sutter that so many have come to hate. He can be viewed as

Considering The Future

After a shootout loss tonight, the hope for the current edition of the Calgary Flames gets slimmer and slimmer. Calgary is back down to 15th in the Western Conference, despite having as many as 2 or 3 games already played compared to the teams ahead of them in the standings. As we look at the days to come ahead, there has to be the realization that a rebuild is entirely possible, and some that may become necessary as time goes forward. Today I will attempt to discuss the many pros and cons of re

7 Years Later: Are The Flames Better Off?

On April 11,2003, the Calgary Flames added the title of General Manager to Darryl Sutter. Coach since Dec 28th of that season, Sutter became the main powerbroker in the Flames organization and in complete control of the hockey operations. At the time, he took over a down and out franchise, with no playoffs in 7 years, and no playoff series win since their cup win of 1989. He inherited a superstar in Jarome Iginla, a budding star in young defencemen Robyn Regehr, and a slew of solid depth players

Calgary Flames - Zeros And No Heroes

When it comes to the 2010-11 Calgary Flames, there is perhaps no team in the NHL that has created such an intense sense of painful failure as the Flames. The Flames entered the season after a tumultuous off season that had many media pundits confused and perplexed. There was no clear consensus exactly how the newest iteration of the Calgary Flames would perform. Some predicted glory, with perhaps the chance of challenging the Vancouver Canucks for the North-West Division title. Many predicted t

A Trip To New Jersey

My mission is to see the Flames play in all 30 NHL arenas, a mission that began in October of 2005 while at a local pub watching the Flames take on the Oilers. With the previous season’s work stoppage, and the season before’s run to the Stanley Cup Finals, Flames tickets had become a very hard item to come by. I was then struck with the idea of combining two of my favourite activities; watching hockey and travelling. You can follow my quest to visit all 30 arenas right here… November 24, 2010 –

Do Fans Want To Fire The Right Sutter?

As the Flames woes continue, and the slide in the standings more evident everday, the fan’s anger typically falls on the desk of Flames GM Darryl Sutter. The once popular slogan of “In Sutter we trust” has been replaced with a “Fire Sutter” watch. However, are fans fixated on firing the right Sutter? Brent Sutter came to Calgary with great fan fare and great expectations. Having set records in a very successful New Jersey system, his hire was seen as the final Championship piece for the Flames a

Game Day Blog: Flames @ Ny Rangers

Tonight's game is the first and only meeting between the Flames and NY Rangers. The Flames are coming off of a disappointing OT loss to the Detroit Red Wings Sunday night in Detroit. The Flames were up 4-3 with under a minute to play when Wings sniper, Henrik Zetterberg, tied it on a power play with 3.2 seconds left in regulation and goalie Jimmy Howard was off for an extra attacker. Nicklas Lidstrom scored at 1:38 of overtime to give the Red Wings a 5-4 victory in the extra period. Jarome Ig

With the new additions of right winger Tom Kostopoulos and defenceman Anton Babchuk in the line up tonight, the Flames will look for a new spark to get their team back into the win column. The Flames jumped back on a plane after a disappointing 5-4 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes Friday night. An 'oh-so-close' come from behind for the Flames picking up a pair of goals in the final minute of regulation to come within one...turned out not to be enough for the win. The team arrived late into San Jose last night to get ready for a quick turn around game Saturday night in the Shark tank. The Flames play the first of three road games tonight against the swift skating Colorado Avalanche. They are looking to break a four-game losing streak. There is a definite sense of urgency to this game. "It's time to do the things that make us successful and gel as a team," said Alex Tanguay. "Right now we are all focused on the outcome. There is a process to get to that outcome. We'll get there. We have too much experience." The Flames are also looking to get back to putting the puck in th

Moss ready for return

Hello, It's gameday at the 'Dome as the Flames prepare to host the Detroit Red Wings (7:30, TSN, The Fan 960)and it would appear that the big news today is that David Moss will return to the line-up. Moss, you may recall, hurt his shoulder in the pre-season. He had been playing center during the pre-season but will line-up tonight in his more familiar right wing position on a line centered by Mikael Backlund with Rene Bourque on the left side. This will be Game 1 for Moss this season. Poste
