  1. I hope you didn't read into it that I was thinking this was anything but a good goal. I suspect you were agreeing. Intent is BS except in criminal charges. Coleman's intent was to score a goal. So what. Even Mike Smith wants to score a goal. The excuse was just that. An excuse.
  2. It sounds like fun. No idea what we see in remaining games for the Oilers (3?). If it's a goalie battle in NY, Tampa has been everything they need win. Shesterkin not as solid, but made saves when he needed to.
  3. And I need a bunch of players tonight to get goals. Don't see that happening. With the Oiler-AVS, I wonder which team figures out how to play defense first. The AVS forgot, but the Oilers never really knew how to do it. Manson pair got burned for 3. Smith reminded me that if you hit the net, he will let in a ton of goals. Leaky glove, dive onto his face, laying on the ice for the 3rd chance. COL got to him and demoralized him. Not like he was pulled after 3. Kostco the better goalie, but Smith owns the net. If they go down 2-0, they might start Kostco.
  4. Had it been us in game 5 that had that one be the go-ahead for the Oilers, I would have been mad. But, it's also possible that Sutter doesn't challenge. The rules are da rules and he touched the puck once about 5 feet out then again once the other player tagged up. Forward motion of the puck. The linesmen watch that type of play every night they ref. Chip in, control/no control, tag up, and mostly only miss the skate in the air thing, which is a little picky. Since this doesn't go to TO, they are only calling it back if they feel they missed something like a skate. Smith was bad. Kuemper looked like he was struggling a bit and the back up was okay, but not outstanding. AVS need to do a better job since this was a runaway and only close because of chances allowed and goaltending. Francouz is a decent goalie, but they did make it hard on him.
  5. I would also like if they replaced Lindholm on the 1st PK unit. He's defensive enough, even though he will get jobbed on the Selke voting. His minutes used at 5v5 might be better used. Get him some extra minutes elsewhere or save him for when we need him. I don't have the metrics when he played on the PK, but I would suggest that he wasn't out for a lot of PPG against.
  6. The best parts of the game was chasing Smith and putting in the guy that is leaving for Europe, and the smug little troll getting burned on the call. They made the call to review without considering the rule. Just watch the player offside. The video coach didn't consider the possibility of losing a call. Coach had no choice but to challenge. One goal off the play and one off the challenge penalty. What does he say after the game? We hung 6 on their goalies. In their barn. Sound familiar. Outscore outscore.
  7. The rules aren't exactly clear are they? How is control determined? Backing in with the puck is under control, unless you haven't really reeled it in. Pushing the puck across the line and then the other player tags up. Not really control, more like a tip in. It's considered a delayed offside until all players are cleared. The other player was before Makar's skates crossed the blue line. Had he been pushing the puck with his stick contacting the puck, it would be different. I remember an exact play with the Flames where the situation was identical. This was a couple of years ago. May have been the AVS. The whistle didn't blow, they scored and it was a simple review that we lost. Maybe I don't agree with the rule, but it is what it is.
  8. I think I suggested the two for one, but was shot down by Conundrumed most likely. But it goes to show you what thought he was worth. Seeing the two from St Lou in the season and playoffs, un un.
  9. I don't like the lineup you have with JT in. LOL Mange and Jarny? Dube in the 3rd line LW? I think the top line has a few goals to offset, but Toffoli isn't a 40 goal guy. Think we can do better. LOL Where did Tkachuk bugger off to BTW? VAN? They didn't like him when they had the chance for nothing. How about Thomas + Kyrou for Tkachuk? JK.
  10. The loss of Kuemper was tough, and resulted in maybe a closer game than it should have been. The typical call for McD after he cross checks a guy to the ice and no call at all. He's even holding him down to avoid being in the way of the point shot. But EDM needs to get called out for the picks. They do it every play. Sometimes not so obvious, but they skate past a guy moving forwatf to defend. The refs told them to watch it, but they got worse. Now that they left Smith in for 6, how does he get the net back? He should, so they can bury him again. He's about 1/2 second behind on shots near the glove.
  11. All those point and only a plus 15 this season. LOL. So, we pay Tkachuk this season or JT Miller next season. From a division opponent, they want a ton. Do we still have Baertschi?
  12. The timing of the signings is sometimes strategic. I don't think they waited this long and will sign him by tomorrow, but who knows. There are so many things to consider with older guys singing ELC.
  13. I am yet to see the linesmen get an offside call wrong on review. Every other call is so called experts in TO. Subject to the instructions they get before the playoffs. And the way they look at a replay. They see intent, which is not conclusive. They think he meant to kick it, so they see a kick. The goalie interference ones should be easy, but they go either way. The high stick ones, well we don't see angles they do.
  14. Gets us a winger. Just missing that 2C and 1D.
  15. My avatar only represents lazyness. I look at similar year players; Matthews, Laine, PLD, Tkachuk. Laine makes us better. PLD might be a wash. The reason I say that is that Tkachuk scores goals a lot of ways. Some of his assists are just the other player doing the work. But, he's been a big part of the offense, even as a kid coming in and playing on a defensive line. Only one season on a top line. The rest was MMM and MMA lines. He blew them away.
  16. Yeah, I missed a part of what you said. Good old Ron Mac splained it. I get a little mixed up on the rules, but Woody doesn't get it. Personally, the refs usually get it right the first time. I hate the Double Spend challenge on the goal. And no, this is not even close to the Coleman goal/no goal. May ultimately have the same result, but our call was trash. Colie Campbell had the final say and said he was right.
  17. Not to disagree, but I believe the replay showed that Makar entered the zone before he tagged up. The reason why it was a goal was that it was pushed in and not under control. The panel didn't know what to say, but Friedman contacted some video judges. They confirmed it would have been a good goal no matter when. And then it was 7-4. Not sure what happened Kuemper.
  18. Zary was a strategic signing date. I can see them waiting to the point that he doesn't burn a year. But it seems like they lost interest. Another 5'9" winger no great loss. But, I hate giving up before they get much of a chance to prove anything. If he's the MVP of th Memorial Cup, he will get picked in the draft. A team like MTL really focuses on the Q as well.
  19. Okay, so he's a target. I thought he was better last year in the playoffs. But you do that instead of Kylington or Valimaki. No cap room otherwise. I suspect he would re-sign in FLA for that little, but more in Canada.
  20. I see no reason why they can't re-sign Forsberg. Do they want to is a different story. Sure, trade for Jeannot and we don't need Lucic or Ritchie. I would give up Dube for him.
  21. When I say lost the trade, I mean that they did not get the better player. Tuch has been in the league for some time now and never put up Eichel level scoring. He probably does better than he did in Vegas, but that was a function of their depth. Lucic is a conversation. We salvaged his career and gave him purpose. He has one year left with an actual salary of $1M and a nice SB in July. Monahan is a buyout, a trade to restart his career, or a cap non-casualty. DET may be a good landing spot for him. Close to his roots. A team that can afford him. A place where he has talent to play with. I don't know if I mentioned trading Hanifin or not. Maybe it was for Chychrun. I was more frustrated with his playoff play than anything else. That is about the only place he may improve, otherwise it's what you see you get.
  22. I don't disagree with some of your ideas. Who is that magic C that we get though. And our team without Tkachuk; are we better, worse or the same. I would suggest slightly worse. I don't know the Looch situation and will save judgement until after the summer. He served his time well and the fans love him. They would be as upset if we move Tkachuk as one of the cost savers. He's earned the right to retire with grace. Nothing short of a cup means much to him.
  23. Coleman knew what it took, as did a couple of other guys. Couldn't seem to get that through to the others. A lot of wasted energy doing things for the crowds. A lot of momentum given back after a lead established.
