I think he's playing up in the lines but hard to tell with not much scoring.

The Soo never really used him in a scoring role from the couple playoff games I watched. For all of the reg season pts he racked, even more impressive was he was their main defensive center all year. Hence his +/- wasn't great, always vs the opponent's best line. At some point I'll sit up half the night and catch a game.

Get past Colorado, and Chicago likely next, more my time zone.

Game 2 was likely the hardest to win, but next game at elevation (5000 feet).  Get in early and go hiking.

They don't seem to track minutes in games, and they don't really cover the team much here.

I looked at the projected lines from game 2, which they said came from how game 1 unfolded:

Jakob Pelletier – Rory Kerins – Matthew Phillips
Justin Kirkland – Luke Philp – Martin Pospisil
Emilio Pettersen – Connor Zary – Eetu Tuulola
Alex Gallant – Byron Froese – Walker Duehr

Kevin Gravel – Nick DeSimone
Greg Moro – Colton Poolman
Ilya Solovyov – Andy Welinski

Dustin Wolf
Daniil Chechelev

That seems to make sense.  Phillips scored in game 1, and Kerins was a +1.

Only goal in game 2 was on the PP, having Phillips assisting on Kirkland's goal.

Wow if true. Gawdin must be injured. Can't say I expected that. I like that line though. Perhaps Pelts-Kerins being attached at the hip moving fwd could be delicious.

Gawdin out, but no reason mentioned.

He was projected to go at C on the top line.

Somewhere between practice and game 1 start, Kerins drew in.

I suppose it made the most sense, since it would not disrupt any other lines.

But that's a big change.

Wow, talk about giving the kid the keys to the ferrari.lol

Good for him, big ask, but he's a smart player. He doesn't runaround forcing offence like most big point guys do. Led the O in faceoffs taken so he can likely hold his own.

I'm shocked but happy. Now I have to catch a game.

2 Wolf SOs 2 Kerins starts....coincidence?

Yes. Without question it's just a coincidence.lol

It's just odd that there doesn't seem to be any mention of Gawdin.

He was part of the top scoring Heat line all season.

Played 3 playoff games and had 4 points.

Must be injured.

I watched the Heat youtube channel. Indeed, it was Kerins and Pelts celebrating Phillips' goal in game 1. Highlights are scant though. Just goals, really.

Can't find toi, faceoff data that might be helpful. Hopefully he's doing well.

He certainly looks like it's straight into the fire, which is likely okay.

The Spits are still alive, otherwise:

"Hold my beer" - Wyatt Johnston, probably. If the Texas Stars mattered.

Beck is with the team, but hasn't drawn in.

Probably the best thing, though.

He's been with the team a month, but no games.

The team is rolling right now.

Like I said, odd that Gawdin came out and Kerins in.

Not normal to sub a top producer from a top line.

No mention anywhere of an injury.

Perhaps there was some question about his play in the first round.

But he had 1g and 3a in 3 games.

Anyway, this is about Kerins.

Keep it up.

Help the Heat win the Calder.

Become a fixture with Pelts and show that you can be a callup.

Pretty significant that he comes right out of junior and i on the top line during the playoffs.

No adjustment, kid you are next up.

  • 1 year later...

Kerins showing up here in his first full AHL season.

I understand he's been pretty up and down but it's nice to see some impact is there. Possibility he's on the radar in the next season or 2.

Stromgren over Stankoven continues to look puzzling for the Flames.

To me, it looks like they went for the 6'3" over the 5'8" frame.

It was a pretty awful draft class.  Tough year to scout for sure with limited games for CHL players as Stankoven only had 6 games, but still should've had enough intel due to playing with Zary

Played the season before and the stats were there to look at.

Picked a LW LHS over a RHS C?

Yeah, why would we want to draft a RHS C?

I think the crew here was literaly screaming at their computers when we passed on him and DAL picked him.  I remember the draft talk during the draft.  SMH.  We seem to have problems drafting out of Sweden.  Swedes no problem, but not in their leagues.
