Unless he's willing to only do a 4/5 year deal I'm not in a rush to be getting that deal done, especially if he is asking for a Hagel style deal. I'd let him go into the season if that is the case and see what type of player you get.
Didn’t Connie say in one of his recent pressers that he doesn’t think long contracts are the way to go right now? I got the impression he’s not looking at anyone with a mind to signing any more than 4-5 years at a time. And if he’s saying that to the press the players must be aware of the messaging (unless of course he’s saying one thing publicly and other things to players/agents). I’d be surprised if he buckles to any demands for massive term at this point.

Sorry guys, I know this is totally not on topic but I didn’t want to start a whole new thread for this: are these message boards accessible at all on the new Flames app, or the “old” NHL app, or only through the Flames website (how I’m accessing them now)? Just trying to figure out best way to navigate.
also, so that I can be just a little bit on topic: SOOOO ready for hockey that I’m gobbling up every little bit of news and content no matter how trivial. Excited to see the “fresh start” Flames. Not expecting much, just want to be entertained and see them having some fun. Cautiously optimistic that Hubie and Marky return closer to form. Have been excited for return of Kyl, really hope he’s good and we get to see him pick up where he left off.

But yeah, we’re a highly penalized team because we’ve got guys taking really stupid penalties that are absolutely fair to call.

Overall this season the reffing seems to me to have been equally bad for us and our opponents. Some games tilt a bit more in our favour, some games go the other way, and every once in a while you get that rare bird: a well-called game…

Please somebody tell me that Lucic does more than fill out a line.
IMHO, he is lucky to get a touch on the puck.
Mostly he gives it to Kadri or Hubey.
In front of the net and we have greasy chances, he gets no touch at all.
As I said, somebody tell me something positive, so I can get off his case.
I’m asking myself the same thing every time i see him out there. What am i missing? All i see is him fumble the puck in his feet every time it comes near him. On one play, i’m pretty sure Kadri passed to Weegar, the less ideal play, because he saw that his other option was Lucic (who was actually in a better scoring position than Weegar).

Looking forward to this one. Hoping the Flames don’t get stupid trying to outgun McD

I’m noticing that Zaddy is not putting anything into his shots, and is basically passing to someone who can shoot.
Could be an injured hand from the shot he blocked last game

This Lucic stuff reminds me of the string of old has-beens the Flames kept trying to “rejuvenate” during the Iggy years. Owen Nolan, Olli Jokinen, etc. like we’re somehow gonna put the magic back in their game that no one else could provide…
-
Dube hella impressive on both those goals
-
Just tuning in, and what the hell is lucic doing there?!

I hate to beat the dead horse, but this was the perfect game to play Matthew Phillips. When they were up by three goals, I'd be double-shifting him. An exaggeration, perhaps, but I'm feeling no love for our coach.
Love.
I was really wondering how the hell you justify playing 7 D instead of playing Phillips. Especially when 2 of those D are mackey and Gilbert…

As far as the replacement players, we built a team to compete in the playoffs.
We lost three that were silent every year.
If we can get a decent seedng in the playoffs, we could make some noise.
I feel like this gets overlooked a lot lately when complaining about the new guys. I liked Johnny’s showing this last season in the playoffs (except when he was cheating the breakout instead of playing D on the series-ending goal…), but aside from that we had a substantial history of getting very little from these guys in the playoffs. Chucky was an absolute ghost against both Dallas and Edmonton this last time around. His one good game in the first round kinda padded his stats… so why would we actually be sad about the guys we lost, knowing that come playoff time they’re just gonna disappear anyway? I think we’ll see a lot more life out of hubie and kadri in the playoffs than we ever did out of Johnny and Chucky.

I didn’t get to watch as much of the road trip as I would have liked. Anyone feel like either of the new kids deserve to stick around? Very different question: anyone feel like the team will keep either of the new kids up on the big club longterm?
-
Jeez. Do they think they’re saving the good stuff for the TO game or something?
-
Well, i guess that was the D
-
4th line gets owned

Against a more dangerous team it probably would be

Marky keeping us in this with the lapses we’re making on D.
Yep, could easily be 3-0

Dammit guys, tighten up

I don’t disagree pcs. However, imagine if he made that save - the confidence it would’ve given him and the team. The guy is really fighting it. Hopefully he can settle down and work through it. Mind you, I’m a fan of Vladar and I’m kind of thankful Markstrom’s play is giving Vladar more starts.
Yeah, this is true. And last year, he would have made that save most nights

Gotta admire Markstrom’s consistency this year 🙄
Yeah. Would also help if his team didn’t give him Laine on a breakaway for his first shot of the night…

I mean, i bet smaller guys that get drafted by the Flames now are like “ah Blockchain, how long until Sutter gets replaced”
-
First. Really excited to watch Johnny G play again tonight. Just hope he doesn’t have too good of a game.
second. Why the hell are we seeing Zahorna while Philips sits? I get that the 4th line needs the help, but come on Sutter…

Jeez, 7-6 is kinda ridiculous for a playoff opener. Especially with Hellebuyck in one of the nets.
