  1. As much as we all love and should get a Kylington - Tanev pairing, it isnt happening. Kylington - Gudbranson actually has been decent. Best skater on the blue line covers for the worst one. Zadorov and Gudbranson should not be playing on the same night. Problem is that Valimaki hasnt played well either, Sutter loves his beef and thats too much salary to bench if you go with Kylington - Stone.

Why would they shut their fans forum down?

    Not very fan friendly!!

Glad to see you guys got another forum going.

Cause they know a thing or two about winning :P Who needs fans anyways?

I honestly think it was because the organization did not want to be running a fan board that, rightfully so, is going to be very critical of the team right now. I wouldnt be shocked if it magically comes back when the team is good again.

  3. Bennett has really impressed me so far. I am also someone who is curious how a Tkachuk - Bennett - Neal line would work. Might be a way to create more secondary offense, as well as being a massive pain to the other team.

I would have to think Smith with getting his rear end kicked the other night knows he has to be way better in order to support the team. If he is to arrogant to realize how poorly he has played and sloughs it off we are in big trouble.

Smith was very brutal and honest to the media after the Pens game, he openly stated he has to be better. Smith is only part of the problem though, the defensive structure in front of him has been inconsistent at best. The team as a whole has to be better. A prime Kipper in net wouldnt even completely mask all the problems on the ice.

Smith is now beginning to spoil us.  He allows one goal with a 0.968 SA% and not a word said from the peanut gallery.  That's ok, as long as we're getting the goaltending.  Smith is bringing it.

Hes not the problem this year, the rest of the team is.

With the way the Flames are playing they don't have the luxury to start their back up. Hopefully that won't be the case forever.

I am not saying never start Lack. I just don't think the fact he hasn't started yet is a problem.

Then you are just creating a different problem down the road, and that is a rusty backup when the games are more meaningful.

It's not about getting Lack starts. It's about getting Smith rest. And so far he hasn't needed it.

I get the school of thought of getting the back up starts. But when you starter is hot and rested you play him.

Also, it sounds like the coach didn't feel Lack was showing well in practice until a couple of practices ago. If true, that factors in as well.

Highly disagree. With the amount of back to back games and the importance of games down the stretch, you need your backup sharp and able to step in. The longer it takes for Lack to get into meaningful games the less likely hes going to be any good. The way the Flames are playing they cannot afford to have Smith facing 30+ shots a night and playing 70+ games and still have something left for the playoffs. The guy is 35 years old, not 25.

  8. Lack not playing against the Canucks is my point about him not playing though. Now the team has had a bunch of days off, which mean Smith is  rested, which means hes probably going to play the next few games at least. And that means another 1-2 weeks were Lack hasnt played a meaningful game.

I think it was the right call. Smith is the starter. He had been playing very well for us until one bad game where he was pulled. If you start with Lack the game after it is the wrong message. Let Smith get back on the horse. Lack will get his chance soon I am sure.

At some point though you have to get Lack in net for meaningful games. Smith is a big boy and understands that. A crappy Canucks team was the perfect game.

I would think Carolina would be a good game for Lack to start in.

Disagree. They are a talented up and coming team. Too many teams are underestimating them. They just manhandled the Oilers tonight.

  10. My worry now is not about Smith being overplayed but Lack not getting enough game time. Lack should have started against the Canucks regardless of how Smith felt. That was the perfect game for him and was the plan, coaches should have stuck too it.

  11. Drafting goalies is such a crapshoot, even when you take the best kid in the draft. Their development is so finicky. Smith is definitely a stopgap for most likely Gillies, Treliving should have dealt with this issue 3 years ago though. Hes been mucking around too long with goaltending and there is zero consistency back there.

The biggest benefit is no Brouwer being stuck on Bennett's line.

This! Bennett will finally have a talented player to play with. Jagr is a possession and playmaking beast. This will hopefully unleash Bennett. If they produced in the 40-50 point range that would be great for the Flames depth.

How does the Amazon have anything to do with the flames and the new arena

Maybe the Flames order a lot of stuff through them? Quicker shipping :P

On the Amazon note, I dont see the company picking Calgary. But Calgary does already have the headquarters for many different international business tied to Oil and Gas, agriculture, etc. So it wouldnt be a surprise if they choose here.

This has been a terrible game. They do not seem to be taking it seriously at all. A goal every now and then might be nice though. The strategy right now seems to be to win it without scoring a goal somehow.

I agree the skating has been lackluster all preseason, but the goalies havent been coming up with a save when needed either.

I could be missing something, but in the report I read on CalgaryNext there was no mention of the Crowchild interchange and therefore the costs were not included in the 1.8 billion price tag. The transportation costs they refereed to referenced transit upgrades and improvement to 14th St and access in and out of West Village but not Crowchild.

so based on what i've read the 1.8 billion estimated price tag from the city on CalgaryNext does not include any improvements to Crowchild.

It doesnt. Neither proposal includes the infrastructure upgrades that the city would be on the hook for. With Victoria Park though a lot of that work is already done or planned for.

Why have we not broke ground on the fieldhouse? The money is set aside for it.

Wrong actually, there is no money set aside for one. Its one of the unfunded wishlist items the city has. I personally think both sides are in the wrong, but moreso the Flames. CalgaryNEXT was a half baked idiotic dream from Flames ownership, they didnt want anything besides that. If the Flames want to lease a new arena from the city, then they dont get to keep all the revenue thats made. If the Flames want to own the building, then they can pay property taxes on it like everyone else.

  17. Ramo had no chance in the stamkos goal. That took a wicked bounce off the board right to a wide open stamkos. Would have taken an unbelievable save to stop that. I was as there and the puck shot off the boards right to Stamkos.

This. i was there too in perfect few of the shot. Brodie was shadowing Stamkos all night and left him wide open on that play. Ramo had no chance and was not at fault for that goal.

  18. I can't see how you can reason that Hamilton personally cost them 4 points. He didn't play well but I can' tmake the connection that he himself cost the team 2 losses, nor can I with Gio.

I agree there are lots of issues but the D also sorted itself out once Brodie got back and we still saw bad goaltending and still have lost points due to it. I think the impact a goalie has on the score is more than an individual dman so while I agree there are other issues and players needed to play better, I stand by my opinion that goaltending has been their biggest problem this year. YOu are sunk in this league without at least average goaltending.

I disagree, the defense has still been garbage on a regular basis. Just because it smells less doesnt mean it still isnt garbage. Brodie has been great, but hes only 1 guy. Decisions in the defensive zone and defensive zone coverage have been bad to horrid. Goaltending has not been good as last year, but its still been good enough on most nights to win. This team either cant score, cant defend or both. Thats whats costing them games.
