Man Treliving did a lot of really good work this offseason, so I hate to nitpick, but Lewis starting the season on the 3rd line speaks to a lack of depth.

To be fair I think he was hoping for a young guy or Milano to step up and take the job, but nobody did.

We can talk about Sutter trusting vets and not putting young players in positions to succeed, but earning the time is part of how Sutter gets this team to play to a certain identity. That identity is what leads him to be a successful coach and it is what was lacking from this team for a lot of years. So maybe we give up some skill at the bottom of the lineup to have more work ethic, but that all goes with the identity of the team.

Hopefully Treliving can find a top 9 winger soon.

is he even trying. not sure tre knows how to build a team

  2. still need a right winger for Lindholm and Hubrdeau,  2nd line of Mangiapane/Kadri and Tofoli is fine.. need a left winger for Backlund and Coleman and a right winger for Lucic andLewis..anyone know when training camp roster is being announced

  3. first line has been set most all season... gaudreau/lindholm/tkachuk.. 4th line has been, lucic/lewis and now with Monahan gone on Long Term. it will be Ritchie or Carpenter.. that leaves.. Mangiapane and Toffolli together as the second line.. and Backlund and Coleman as the Vet line..only players left are Dube and Jarnrok.. I'd put Jarnrok with Toffolli and Mangiapane and Dube with Backlund and Coleman.. we have 6 right shot forwards.. lindholm/Jarnrok/Toffolli/Lewis/Carpenter and Ritchie.and 7 players that have played center..Dube/Lindholm/Jarnrok/Backlund/Lewis/Coleman/Carpenter

  4. i;d still have...Gaudreau/Lindholm/Tkachuk

                          Mangiapane/Ruzicka/Toffoli

                           Jarnkrok/Backlund/Coleman

and then use the 6 other guys as the opposition determines

    Lucic/lLewis/Monahan/Ritchie/Carpenter/Dube

Mangiapane is a good defensive player.  He added to Tkachuk and Backlund's games when they were mostly defensive line.  He's easily top line talent.  If we had a good 2nd line scoring C, he would be even higher in points.

To do that, we either need Monahan to be much better and trade Backlund for a cheaper, younger, C or move Monahan and get a better, cheaper 2nd line C.

Buying out Monahan saves us $4m, but leaves us with a hole and no money to replace him.  Need the savings to use on signing guys to new deals.

What we should be doing is moving Monahan and Backlund out somehow, bring in a 2nd a 3rd line C or just a 2nd line C and move up Ruzie.  We lose a bit of Backlund's defensive game, but you need that spread out on all lines.   system is a right shooting playmaking f

ace off specialist center.. who is out there that is a fit

Sutter has said over and over again this year.. what we are missing anywhere in the

system is a right shooting playmaking f

ace off specialist center.. who is out there that is a fit

For me you have to look at this as what we have versus what you lose. There are players under this system that thrive some who don't and some who are neutral. If you remove whats the cost or long term effect to regain what you have. Sometimes its better to dance with the devil you know. Here is where I rank players on a +, - N in terms of what the contribute to the team right now. IMHO the Neutral or - players are ones that can be removed and subsituted with similar products at a lesser value. I love Kylington but he is a player you can trade high as is Hanifin. The facts are by removing any + player currently on the team, yes you may get something of quailty but I do not think you get back what we have. I am sorry but simply removing JG, MT or Mags are players you just can't replace in a trade or draft choice. We have players that are coing up in the AHL that could fill in for Dube,Kylington, Hanifin at a lesser rate. Replacing Backs or Mony wound be a little tougher at the C position.  Plus we all have to admit that Zadrov and Gubranson are a force on the backend, that is something that is not easily replaced as well.

    FORWARD

    JG +

    MT +

    LINDY +

    MONY N

Doubt there touching fourth line sutter said he has lucic with ruzzie to learn and it makes it easier for him to learn how he is to play

well Thats what i'd do what the heck does Sutter know about coaching?? lmao.. oh yea... anyways.. thats what id do.. Lucic and ruzicka play completely different games and I'd have Dube and Ruxicka together for the speed factor and Lewis with them for his experience.. I'd have Lucic and Toffoli with monahan cause I just think they bring different elements that blend well together as a line and a history of familiarity

I loved what he said. You make trades when you're playing bad, or playing good. It's a trade. It's better to trade this early because at the deadline, it is 40 days left in the season, that's not a lot of time to integrate them into the roster, and a lot of times it doesn't work because of how little time the new player has to get used to the team, the play.

It's basically what I've been thinking the last week or so. I thought now was the time to add to get a player acclimated. I hope it makes us a top3 line team with a decent-good 4th line.

What the 3rd line is lacking is hockey IQ or speed. Hopefully adding him to Dube gives he someone to work with. I think Dube can do it. Hopefully Monahan can get excited too and this gives him a shot in the arm. If we can get that 3rd line to click, it would mean a lot to this team.

    3rd line.. lucic/monahan/toffoli.. 4th line... dube/ruzicka/lewis

Only saving grace is we drafted a RHS ed it.. got it..dont want it...RW...

But it's crazy how many teams passed on Wallstedt.  Teams just don't want to draft goalies because of short term mindset.  So, I mean, if we had a re-draft then i'm pretty sure we wou pass on him again.  BT wants to win now.

treliving  will never win a cup.. He doesn't have the ability to construct a team.. he collects hockey players like I used to collect hockey cards..... got it  got it,, dont have it.. got it.. got it.... need it.. got it.. dont want it..

Thanks for that. I just figured with sponsors on the helmets the tip of the iceberg why not get a jump on the rest before the big corporations get in there?

That being said, is there any local rumors on potential arena names?  Anything other than Rogers or Bell would be nice.

what new arena??? our new Mayorette just killed that... It was the center piece of so much more of how the city was to be revisioned.. She knows not of what she has done

Finnish selected players - 5th largest contigeent which is probably about right.

Canada, USA, Sweden and Russia top 4 countries Flames franchise has drafted from

Toni Lydman probably our most sucessful "drafted" Finn but hopefully Valimaki can change that!

we had Pekka Rautakeellio here when we first had a team

    Okay good to hear.

Yeah maybe sometime we should draft Finns but I'm happy with Swedish. Both countries have good coaching staffs.

to watch sports and my brother was a Habs faBut yes we Finns are hockey people and we go to games. Almost everyone can say they're favorite hockey team. Other sports don't have that much fans than hockey.

I grew up on the east coast of Canada as a Bruins fan.. Couldn;t pick the Leafs as they were dad's team and were the reason we were not allowed  to watch sports on t.v. and my brother was a habs fan to spite my father who was anti Anything French. I moved to Calgary in 76 and  bought season tickets to the WHA Cowboys when they moved to town and switched to being a Flames fan when the NHL came to town and still dont understand why we stayed the Flames nor how a person could root for any team not from their home town.. I still hope for a tie.
