  1. I'm very saddened by this news,  thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I've always felt when someone passes on through this world, they deserve to be celebrated. Life is a precious thing, and we lost a good one this week.

We're all very lucky to have been able to interact with him over the years.

    RIP, friend.

A fascinating read from Edmonton's finest that was put out two years ago yesterday.  It is full of humour and for those who don't want to read I'll pull out some of the best quotes.

I'll just ignore the horrible grammar there and admire the long and bright future that lasted a whopping 4 months from the article date.

Numbers speak for themselves, with sup-par goaltending on many nights.

Brossoit has been a phenomenal pick up.... for Winnipeg

    Just pure gold.

Haha wow, I posted this article in a different topic without realizing it had been brought up in this one. XD

    What a read though!

  3. It sucks for them man...and I don't feel one bit sorry for 95% of their fanbase.

They need to rebuild, yet can't, with the risk of wasting years off mcdavids contract, and he's also good enough to drag them away from higher draft picks, making it a very counterproductive situation.

And the current state of their farm is also dreadful.

  4. Just watched the whole schpeel about mcdavid getting held and hooked.

Are they ****ing serious? Its no different for any superstar player that plays in todays game. The highlight package they showed from the canucks game is no where near as bad as some of the stuff gaudreau has had to deal with this year.

And the bloody media attention this is getting is straight ****ed. Like the oilers need more excuses and free passes...

They go 8-1-1 or whatever in their last 10 games, and the moment they lose the complaints come out...jesus.

    Go eat another cheesburger, fatty.

Apologies if someone has this somewhere, but Gillies was officially recalled.

    However, Peters also said this...

Wonder if its just an illness?

He also had his hand taped a few games ago, so maybe its a minor finger sprain or something. Either way, I don't have a lot of faith in Gillies yet, so that's good news.

    BSD earned another start.

That was a clinic he put on.

Pefect positioning through the entire game.

One goal on a perfect pass to a wide open player.

    BSD gets the toughest starts.

1a or 1b he is, not a backup as HNIC refers to him as.

He looked unbeatable most of the night, no panic at all. He has an odd off night like most goalies, but man when he is on, he looks vezina caliber.

  7. Mcdavid could honestly be the worst thing for that franchise in the long run...of course he could always lead them to a cup down the road, but thats still a ways away.

Hes good enough to carry them to the playoffs and even win a round, which will consistently leave their already terrible farm system void of top talent, unless they draft gems in the later rounds, which hasn't been their forte over recent years.

How about a trade with ARI that sends Brodie/Bennett for OEL and Domi?

That would be reasonable for both teams.

OK, so maybe a steal for us.

The positive for them is that they get a C/LW with all kinds of potential plus a decent D-man at a significant savings in actual dollars paid.

What about OEL and Panik for Brodie/Bennett?

It would probably take hamilton to get OEL and domi. I think brodie and bennett stil have quite a bit value to other GM's, but nothing that will fetch you an elite player with both of them. The problem is how much Arizona values OEL at, as opposed to how good he actually is.

Good Lord man, talk about impatient. This team has only just begun and you want to start selling off the parts ? What is wrong with keeping a Backlund at his ceiling when it is an ingredient you need in order to have a winning team ? Good or great players need experience before they ever take off with reaching their true potential. Do you want to be constantly in rebuilding mode ?

In 5 years, if this team as it is (for the most part) turns us in to a real contender I will have no issue with you throwing it in my face and telling me how wrong I am.

Under BH how often did he say "we got out worked tonight"? It wasn't much. Present day, and its almost becoming a nightly occurrence that our coach questions this teams work ethic.

I have no problem admitting I'm wrong, in fact I hope I am because I want whats best for this team, even through my impatient attitude. I just believe there are more suitable pieces for our division out there.

  10. Those are some good points and I tend to agree.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I am ready to move on from our current core.

I think brodie will continue to trend downwards, gio is only getting older, and  I still have concerns about hamiltons compete and decision making. For forwards, I believe Johnny would do well in the east but has shown that he CAN be shut down, Monahan is a great two way player, but not dynamic, and I was hoping tkachuk would be able to pull a draisaitle (who was a worse skater than tkachuk at 19) and really gain some movement in his stride, but he hasn't, and I'm sure its going to limit his offensive potential. I think we saw backlunds ceiling last year and it would be smart to sell high due to his contract status. He's one of my favorite flames, and I never wanted him to be traded, but I believe now's the time.

I may be too impatient but It just doesn't seem like this core is built to win. IMO we need a shake up.

I believe that GG made a point of saying he wouldn't restrict the gifted players and confining them to a box.  Gaudreau is not struggling because of the system; he is struggling because he is trying to create offense with no support.  Everytime he shoots from the top of the circle it's because there is no options.  They are one-and-done and then back to the D-zone.  By the time he sees the puck again, it's at the end of his shift.

One player that amazes me is Donskoi.  That guy is super-fast.  If we had a player like that with JH, we would see a lot of scoring chances.

We absolutely love donkey in san jose, his hands, his compete and his speed are all ridiculous and its only a matter of time before the points really start coming with the way he plays...seriously never takes a night off. If were talking trades between the two clubs, Bennett would be the starting point, thats how much hes liked in the organization. For those that don't know (which is all of you lol) I grew up in a flames household, but fell in love with the sharks colors when I was 8, and as I got older they became my favorite team for the players and Ive been a die hard ever since. Its a 60-40 split (sometimes 70-30) between my love for the sharks and flames. All I can think about when watching donskoi is how amazing he would look with Gaudreau and Monahan, just the perfect complimentary player they need. Unlikely, but a man can dream. =/
