  1. Our bottom pairing is very weak. I prefer Diaz with brodie and Derek on the third, but it really doesn't solve the issues on defense. I would have liked to see some of our younger guys on the roster like Wotherspoon or Patrick . I feel they would have done a better job the Slemko

  2. I'm sold on everything this team has except for our goaltending. I think Hiller is a solid piece that can help you get to the play offs, but I don't think that he's the kind of goalie that can take you deep into the play offs. Ramos is a decent back up, but not a good starter

  3. A new stadium and arena would be nice. The current facilities are pathetic compared to other CFL, and NHL facilities. I know that the Russians are building a soccer Stadium and hockey arena attached together to form one giant spectacle of a sports facility for the next FIFFA tornument. The flames should do the same. I can't remember which game it was, but Betman himself came to one of our games, and there was talk by the  Sports net crew that Ken King had several proposals to make to Betman regarding a new arena. Allegedly the most practical proposal is the area between Sunalta, and the Greyhound building\station.

  4. Peeps, I don't laugh at your suggestion. I totally agree but only in the right deal. His contract and term are a significant risk. The only problem I see is how such a huge term and cost will effect the dressing room.

Toronto will not find a lot of takers on Kessel because of his contract - I see him as similar to Luongo which means I expect a very good deal. If it happens it will probably be on draft day so the Flames can see exactly what player they are giving up.

All of the rest of it aside, locker-room, media glare, etc. Kessel like Kipper will be allowed to slip into the background where he wants to be. But like you said earlier in play style he is similar to Iginla minus the glowing personality. His style of game is similar, yes he does cherry pick, so did Iginla, but he remains a proven NHL goal scorer...

We will have to wait till draft day to see if this happens. It really depends on how badly the Leafs want to get rid of him but announcing a rebuild publicly should indicate he is on the market... RW is a huge positional problem on the Flames at the moment - he addresses it and his age fits the team...

Very true statement Sir.  Having a RW like Phil will help the flames miles over. Yes I understand that he's not strong defensively, well neither is Johnny Hockey. We have two way forwards to help out with defense. As long as phil can put up 30-40 goals a year, then i'm a happy camper.

  5. You keep suggesting breaking up a top 4 set of pairings that absolutely work. You have provided no proof as to why it makes sense to split up Brodie and Gio, other than he is a LHS. He has become a premier player playing on the right side, but you want to switch him. Wideman is -1 and Russell is +9; doesn't that tell you the problem is not with the 1st or 2nd pairing?

Diaz hasn't been too bad in limited games, but ideally we should concentrate on bringing in a top 4 D to replace Engelland or Smid. Top 4 would provide some insurance in case of one of our top 4 getting injured between now and the playoffs.

This makes no sense. Brodie and Gio are now regarded as an elite defensive pairing, yet you want to break them up??? The top 4 pairings are strong, and have worked all season long. Our bottom 2 pairings have been the weak link on this team. Derek is a minus 13 on a team that is positive in goal differentials. It reflects his poor play. Smid will be an asset once he comes back, but for now I can't see the negative in playing Wotherspoon over  -13 Derek

  6. I'm actually getting sick and tired of Derek. He's so useless. He occasionally makes some good plays, but he is by far the weak link on this team. He's better then Chris butler, but a team bound for the play offs doesn't need a weak link like Derek

  7. This team is missing two things. Elite goal tending, and size. We need the elite goal tending more then we need the size though. I really can't see the flames being competitive with "regular/good goal tending" in the play offs

  8. Ortio is covering off the injury time to Ramos, when Ramos is ready Ortio goes back down. Let's not get over excited here.

This is true. He's only here for injury relief, and once Ramo returns form injury, then Ortio will go down. I see Ortio being hot for 5-10 games before cooling down. I would stay the course with Ramo and Hiller for now, but if either goalie cannot preform in the second half, then trade Ramo, and give Ortio the start.
