  1. Obviously Treliving isn't prepared to pay the price for other goalies. I tend to believe in our goalie prospects and think at least one will turn into a legit #1 in a couple of years. So I'm very happy with this deal. It's a stop gap and if he just plays well and makes all the save he should, we could make the playoffs and maybe win a round or two in each of the next two years. He has the potential to be a significant upgrade this year for us. That's really all I want plus we only lose a pick, a UFA and a prospect who might not have signed with us. With rumours of what other teams were asking for their goalies, this is a great deal IMO.

  2. If they thought he was a good GM he'd have a new contract by now. I have no problem with what BT has done. I have agreed with most of what he has done, it's just the moves haven't really worked out like they seemed they would. Players haven't played up to their standards consistently and work ethic hasn't been there. Sitting a 20 year old when a team's veterans are playing poorly seems misguided to. I know he hasn't played well but if you do it with him do it with everyone else. As an Atlanta Falcons fan, my interest has been drawn away from the troubles of this team the past few weeks but I have watched the losses and it has been frustrating. It has also shown me what a real leader can do when I watch and listen to Dan Quinn coach the Falcons. Leadership is missing on this team.

  3. I live in a very positive-oriented world so seeing improvements in all aspects of our team is very easy for me (I really believe this is true, including the coaching). With that in mind, there is no reason to believe we won't improve significantly from last year provided we are fortunate with limited injuries. Imagine a game plan for Gaudreau on the road that helps him get open or a coach that actually can help with our special teams. That and a goalie that stops almost all the shots he is supposed to stop. Imagine!!! There is much to think positively about plus if we suck that will happen anyway so no point in thinking/worrying about it. Excitement for next season is all I ever ask of my team. I definitely have that already. Hop on the bus.

As a side note, I expect us to be cup contenders in 3-5 years. Cheers.

  4. I think you nailed it. There may be significant adjustments for the players to make, and some may need more time to adjust to the new system than others. As well, we have a very young team. We need at least 1 more year to adjust, develop/mature, and trade a few more players. It seems to me that a rebuild takes 5 years, and the rewards can take a little more time. It is also possible that the rebuild just does not work.

I'd tend to believe we are definitely good enough with the addition of Tkachuk, who I expect to make this team, especially if we add a top 6 winger, to make the playoffs. I get a new coach needs time to gel with his players but if Elliott can come in and give us average goaltending we will be fine. Losing Brodie last season early and Hamilton taking time figuring out his game really hurt and this season we will have Jokipakka for the full year which will help a lot. This points to an improved defence core in front of a proven goalie with a new possession-style team game. All signs point to a really good season IMO.

  5. Very interesting to see what happens with Ortio. Personally I feel give him a one year deal to be backup and if neither he nor Elliott play well next year then you go after a Fleury or another goalie and protect them from the expansion draft and let Elliott and Ortio go. Pretty smart plan I believe. Will the haters give credit to Burke for this or is this Treliving's doing? Lol. I wanted Reimer for one year but this is even better.

  6. Perfect situation. Doesn't tie us into anything after this season and no impact on our cap moving forward. If he proves he's a #1 then we extend him. This night has turned out so great for our team it's amazing. GFG!!!

Almost feels like the Bennett draft when we stole him.

  7. My concern and why I'd be fine giving Reimer $4mill for one year is what happens if Ortio is our backup and outplays our new #1 goalie we just traded good assets for? We can only then protect one. Maybe I'm putty too much faith in Ortio's abilities.

  8. If we all knew right now that Reimer could give us NHL averages in GAA and Save % over 60-65 games this season do you automatically sign him or wait and trade for one of the other goalies likely to be available but for players and/or draft picks. I'd say maybe a 1-year 4-5 million deal might do it.

  9. Based on what has been reported Murray will be eligible. His AHL years count towards his professional playing experience and he will have 3 years experience by the time the expansion draft is held.

However, as I mentioned before a possible scenairo that does help them keep both is Penguins could ask Fleury to waive his NMC and expose himself to the draft. Questionable as to whether or not with all the goalies available an expansion team would want to take someone at his age/contract status so they could do that if Fleury agreed to it. Risky, but a possible loop hole for them to maybe keep both while Murray builds his resume as a starter.

I keep forgetting the AHL seasons. Guess it would depend on what they could get for him now. I would think the price went down significantly today though. Personally I would rather go with Reimer on a two year prove it contract for cheaper that way we aren't locked into anyone with a NMC for 3 more years like Fleury.
