  1. Nope. You probably only get a mid round pick. Still think its worth it because it's actually a player who could help. It's a decent buyout for the Rangers but that 3.5 in the 3rd year is what might make the trade attractive. They've got some young players to pay.
  2. Agreed. Looking at Seravalli's top buyout candidate list is interesting. One is Dubois and I don't think your getting any value from LA to take that deal and I don't want Jack Campbell. 2 names I think are interesting, Barclay Goodrow and Pageau. Both help the Flames in areas of weakness (physicality and at center) so if you could extract a couple of picks those are 2 players I don't mind looking at.
  3. If I were the GM I wouldn't be very involved in FA. It's a bad crop, I think the circumstances are going to land to some bad deals and also there really isn't that much of a need for it. At forward I wouldn't sign anyone. Anyone who can make a difference to this team is going to likely get a horrible deal and the Flames don't really need 2nd line to 4th line forwards. Build the value of what you have and work in a young player or 2. As I said while I can see logic behind Debrusk it's also not really a good move. On D I hope Kylington is back. If he isn't they might need 2 defenders but they for sure need 1 IMO. I thikn they need a veteran who can give them a bit of a stabilizing piece back there. No one with term though (1 or 2 year deals) so i'm looking at TJ Brodie, Dimitry Kulikov, Ian Cole. Goalie, while I do expect they will trade Markstrom if you can't also trade Vladar then signing a 3rd goalie is pointless. They'll need someone for the AHL though. I don't think the Flames will follow this approach but it's just how I would operate.
  4. Both hyperbole and also just incorrect. This stuff really isn't necessary.
  5. Big picture I dont think Debrusk make sense. He isn’t a difference maker nor is he going to change the fortunes of where this team is going. I don’t think he’s value is going be great so he’ll get overpaid. from a more micro lens I can see it. I do think Mang is a strong candidate to get moved this summer so Debrusk keeps that position solid and gets the flames more physical, which I think both Conroy and Huska want. So you get a skill set you desire, similar production and gain the assets you’ll get for trading Mang. it’s not what I would do but there’s logic behind the target
  6. It’s honestly a bit of a mess of a staff which makes sense given the circumstances. Until the flames are done playing Sutter I don’t think they are in a position to build out a proper staff. The fact they arnt lookjg for good for a couple seasons at least, doesn’t help. I would have preferred they just hire Cail Maclean as the assistant but I can understand why they want Larsons experience. I do think it’s a solid staff when it comes to development, just not a great staff in terms of modern tactics or effectiveness
  7. From a contract and salary perspective I find Puckpedia to be just as good as Capfriendly. The interface and tools(armchair GM, calculators) are what made them stand out. but if it’s just info you are looking for Puckpedia is great
  8. maybe not “problem” but they are talking about it. They have found CTE in former soccer players and it’s sparking some debate on heading.
  9. If the rumors are true on DeBrusk, and I can see where they are coming from, it’s not going to be a one year deal. He’ll get some term for sure so he isn’t coming here to be a flip he’s coming here to help the team win. not a smart move but I can see why the Flames would want to do it.
  10. Not a great hire for me. Get someone with experience and they likely wanted that and I can’t imagine candidates were lining up for the job. but his reputation and background doesn’t generate much excitement
  11. The thing about the Draisaitl hit for me is you watch any hockey game and you'll find 1-2 of them in almost every game. Again I don't like it but if that is deemed a suspension then you are going to have a lot of suspensions to toss out. Finals or not.
  12. Less than a season. Requested a trade about 1 month or 2 into the season and they moved him at the TDL the same year. It's pretty rare for trade requests to go on that long. Anytime you are dealing with a NMC and a trade request I just don't agree the team holds all the cards but to each their own. We are clearly on very different pages here. Await the return but i think it's being overshot here. I'm expecting roughly the Keumper package, but likely a little less, in return.
  13. I don't like the Draisaitl hit but honestly that's not suspension worthy. Penalty all day but not suspension worthy.
  14. I love Paul Maurice. Been an underrated coach his whole career and a major reason why i'm pulling for the Panthers. Would be great to see him win a cup
  15. I did not take the same. I understood that the Flames set a price at the TDL and now are scrambling a bit to try and get close to what they were asking for then. I don't agree that the Flames hold the cards here. I think Markstrom has asked to be traded.
  16. Not my favorite person but hard to disagree with what he is saying here. Makes a lot of sense to me.
  17. sure, who wouldn't be. Markstom and 28 for 10, i've got no issues with that. Markstrom plus Anderson for 10? Crazy talk.
  18. perhaps he just has a specific destination in mind, because from afar i'm not understanding what his logic is here.
  19. I've never advocated for saving assets, nor do I have an issue if the Flames want to bottom out. The argument hat I don't like or agree with is that the Flames should do whatever they can to acquire a pick in the 10-12 range because it will help accelerate the rebuild. I don't think your getting that type of player in that range. If you want to rebuild it should be about asset accumulation so use your assets intelligently and acquire a higher amount of good assets and not just 1. I also find it interesting that the Flames have been criticized for doing the rebuild too fast last time and now the discussion is they should speed it up again.
  20. They were in the top half of 5 on 5 save %, bottom half in virtually all other metric. Really poor in defending and generated high danger chances. I'm not suggesting goaltending can't be improved, just from what I can see it's not their top priority and i don't blame they. They are not a very good team with holes all over their roster.
  21. Wont' dispute the value of players like that. Just dispute the logic that the Flames should aggressively acquire picks 10/11. If they can fantastic but there should be a reasonable price associated with it.
  22. I don't think it's a "cliff" but just a recogniztion of while I do thikn this is a quality draft the odds are your not getting a franchise changer player outside the top 10 and I think that's true. Good players for sure but I thikn at pick 11/12 your likely look at that, players that even if they hit are going to be good (ie 2nd liners/2nd pairing) but not really altering. In that sense makes perfect sense for those teams to be open to using their picks. Not suggesting the Flames shouldn't' be interesting but going "all in" to acquire them doesn't make sense to me as it's not likely going to fundamentally change their retool/rebuild. I think Buffalo is very confident with Levi and Luukkonen also played well last year. I wouldn't be targeting Markstrom if I were Buffalo either. Bigger needs elsewhere.
  23. Nurse appears to be demoted. They've toyed with it at times during this playoffs but I wonder how much longer till they consider splitting up Ekholm and Bouchard. Dallas wasn't able to do it, but in game 1 I thought the Panthers (albeit in low quantities) finally exposed the lack of depth in the Oiler D.
  24. The other angle to this, if teams are willing to move picks that speaks to the quality of the draft. I don't think it's as simple as they want to move because they don't want to wait, they don't want to wait for the caliber of player they are likely to get. So while it sounds great to have 2 top 10/11 picks I think expectations of what that could mean for the Flames is getting very overblown.
  25. I’d be pretty surprised if it wasn’t Singh. Makes too much sense. I like Singh. Would not be happy with more Wills
