  1. 1. Playoffs: No 🥲

    2. Pacific Division Standings:

        1. Vegas

        2. Edmonton

        3. LA

        4. Seattle

        5. Vancouver

        6. Calgary

        7. Anaheim

        8. San Jose

    3. Top 3 Goal Scorers:

        1. Mangiapane

        2. Kadri

        3. Lindholm

    4. Top 3 Assist Getters:

        1. Huberdeau

        2. Andersson

        3. Lindholm

  2. From an organizational stand point. Coronato needs to play in the top 6 and be developed that way. Rosie needs to play center and be a defensive stalwart who moves the puck in the right direction. That being said I would like to see this given a shot.

    Hubie-Lindy-Coronato

    Dube-Kadri-Sharangovich

    Mang-Backs-missing top 9 RW (imo)

    Coleman-Ruzie-Duehr

On a side note one guy that I keep looking at, but have no idea how to get (cost wise and cap implication wise), is Crouse for second line size with Kadri and Dube.

Then you can push Govich down with Mang and Backs.

1st and 4th stay the same.

I think he approached the summer much like he had when he was active on the roster; spent a ton of time skating and doing weight and fitness training.  I have no concern about his physical fitness.  He has said that he has overcome the things that took him out of play.  Of course we shall see, but I don't think the team has a huge concern about him right now.

That’s not what I heard yesterday, but I hope I’m wrong.

  4. I think the team is optimistic to have Kyl back, but are concerned at what a year off can do. And realize it might take him a bit to get back to game speed, and some of the stuff (from a mental standpoint) that he was wrestling with, I think the team is hesitant if he can get back there at all. Which is the crossroads they are at with him.

  5. If there are no more changes to the opening day roster, for me this is where I would start:

    Mangipane - Kadri - Sharangovich

    Huberdeau - Lindholm - Coronato

    Ruzicka - Backlund - Coleman

    Pelletier - Dube - Duehr

    Hannifin - Anderson

    Weegar - Zadorov

    Kyllington - Tanev

    Markstrom

    Vladar

  6. I know there was issues with bertuzzi and Canada, and with Tkachuk and Johnny leaving, blah blah blah. But I think he would look really good on Kadri’s wing.

    Mang - Kadri - Bert

then without trades we could try

Hubie - Lindy - Coronato / Duehr (both unproven but have the speed and the skill to play up there)

To entice Bert it probably looks like a $6 x 6, and then we have to move out salary. But not impossible.

Well. I went an entire season without posting in here, or anywhere. The amount of uneducated vitriol criticism on blogs and all was too much to take.

Not sure if that applied to here, I didn't look.. but now that the season is over I can summarize with a straight head...

We didn't meet expectations, that's obvious.. but the reasons are not what the majority are pointing to...

Now I'll be the first to admit I expected it to gel a !ot quicker, but let's start with Hubie.. ripped out of the only team and system he's ever known. Forc d to learn a new system, feeling the effects of being way higher above sea level than he's ever played . As well his teammates having to learn him as well.. we started to see the chemistry late in the season but it was too late ..  he will be better next season..guaranteed ..I'm not one but worried ..

Same with weeger ..and to top it off he's a dman.. We've seen it time and time again, dmen take a season to assimilate. We saw it with Dougie, Haminic, hanifin... Every top pair guy we brought in.. we were seeing the real Weegar at the end ..again, too late to save the season.

"Sutter won't play the kids". Is a !oad of crap.. Duehr, Pelletier, both earned ro!es.. truth is Phillips was invisible when he came up..so he went back..

We all have short memories.. when Sutter came back, both Johnny and chucky finished horribly.. Sutter's first priority always is developing a style and chemistry.. consistency..moving players in and out of the lineup is counter productive to that..so he goes with consistency.

Losing him now would be a huge mistake.. consistency into next season is critical.

The player /coach stories are crap too..no ex player has ever had anything but praise for playing for him..the man we see at the podium is not the same who the players see in the dressing room..

And let's be serious... Replace him with who? Weve done the cheap route, the "next one"route .. and all were failures.. we finally pay for a real coach and people just want to whine ..

Now ..change will happen..it always does ..but I'd do my best to run as much back as possible . Regular spots for Duehr, Pelletier, Coronato,..sign Lucic to an appropriate 4th line contract.. keep Lewis ..sign Stecher

One more year in the A for Wolf.. he may be ready but he needs to play like a starter ..not every couple weeks as a backup..  We've runined goa!ies by rushing them before .. one more year will only help him.. I wanna see him when he can compete for the starter net..not the backup job.

Thank you for a breath of fresh air in here. Everyone’s frustrations and reservations on this team, the coach, the GM, and ownership may or may not be warranted. Difference of opinions is great for a debate, but lately it’s been the crap on the flames train falling off the back of the bandwagon.
    Anyways, I digress, lol.

I will have to respectfully disagree with some of your observations. Firstly Hubie and Weegar I agree 💯, they will be better next year.
As far as the kids go, I for one would live to see Pellts, Coronato, Ruzie, and Wolf all still in the AHL next year, not because they’re not ready, but because they’re part of our next core. And I want to see them further develop chemistry, comradely, and a winning mentality together. Next year there are a bunch of UFAs coming off the books or up for a new contract. And bringing those four in at a time where you can fully reinvent the roster is crucial.
In line with that thinking, for me there is no sense bringing back a Looch or Lewis. It’s time to start to turn the page so we are in a good position to turn the chapter next year. I would look to sign guys that have the potential to be moved at the deadline next year for draft capital in 2024.

We might have another frustrating year this upcoming year, but let Sutter push for hard working defensive hockey to our long term guys, so the message and culture is past down next year to the next core of our team. Then it’s a teams leadership pulling that line rather than a coach.

    1. He can no longer play in NCAA since he has signed a contract.  Cannot be paid while playing in NCAA.

    2. He can no longer play in the AHL this season due to roster freezes.  He can play in the AHL next season and he will be waiver exempt.

I thought those were the answers, thanks for clarifying.

Knowing that, for the development of our young guys, why not have two lines on the farm of:

    Pelletier - Ruzie - Coronato

Phillips (if he’ll stay) - Zary - Schwindt

then use some of the seasoned AHL guys to round out that roster, guys like Jones and McLain, Posipisil, Klapka, maybe Kerins comes in and makes some noise.

It also gives us another look and more development of our D, put Kuz and Poirier together.
And let wolf run the table with this young core of guys, who will be over ripened with maybe an AHL title under their belts, I’m pretty sure that was Detroits model for a long time.

  9. Sorry I’m late to the party but couldn’t find the info any where. With Coronato’s ELC now signed, what are his or our options next year?

    1. Can he return to Harvard? If yes, is he paid as being in the minors?

    2. Can he play in the AHL? Is he waiver exempt to be sent up and down throughout the year?

There really is not anything with this to be excited about. You just squeak out a win against a Fing bottom dweller that got Satoshi Nakamoto canned last night, yeah start the parade

Well I’ll be the glass half full guy, what we have to be excited about is that we’re still in the mix and as tough as we made tonight. We still got it done, I’m not gonna plan the parade but I’m not gonna rain on it either.
The true flames fans enjoyed their drinks tonight. Live to fight another day. 🍻

  11. Sutter is going to be in his glory at tonight’s presser.

Media: What made you think that tonight was a good night to bring in Michael Stone?

Sutter: Did you notice who the difference makers were. ***insert cheeky smile*** Looch gets us the go ahead go, and Stone wins us the game. Size, experience is what wins in this league. ****insert head tilt and another cheeky smile***

I'm not really sure why anyone even favors Hubey with Backlund.  It doesn't make any sense to me.

Mange has looked better with Lindholm, but who doesn't?

That Kadri line is so bad they need to play as a 3rd line.

Ritchie is mostly his brother with less tendency to go get the puck.

Duehr is the only reason why the 4th line isn't totally embarassed every night.

We won't see Pelletier back in the lineup until (at the very least) a B2B.

Ruzie has no pics of Sutter he can use to get out of the doghouse.

Coronato is maybe a game when we don't need to worry.

You are here to learn kid, don't ask about playing.

You got your money, so pipe down, dress up in a nice suit and have some popcorn on us.

Oops, I reverted to the rant.

  13. While I’m Here…….

@Darryl_Sutter 😉 On Behalf of the Flames Burning it Down Bandwagon, we would like to see the following:

Go back to the well with

    Ruzie - Lindy - Toffee

    and

    Mang - Kadri - Dube

We’ve seen it work and trust your first instincts on the year when this worked quite well.

Give the young guys a shot with

    Hubie - Backs - Coronato

    and

    Pellts - Lewis - Coles

It gives us four lines that are responsible and have a scoring threat on each line.

Let’s try it for the next two games against a lesser opponent of Anaheim and Chicago, and if all else fails you can move Cole’s back up, and put Looch and Ritchie on the fourth to ground and pound the other team for a maximum of 8 minutes a game.

    Sincerely,

Unfortunately, I don’t think Coronato plays this season. If Pelletier isn’t getting into the lineup, I don’t see Darryl using Coronato.

Heck, I don’t even know if Vladar will see the net again

I agree unfortunately, I have been a Sutter supporter for a long time, and I do have faith in him, but I can’t understand why he can’t or won’t recognize the impact of youth and energy in a lineup.

Duehr seems to be getting better and better why would you take away from his ability to produce points on the 4th line but I would love to see coronato on any line to see where he is at playing on the bigs

Moving Duehr up isn’t to take away anything from him. I think he would fare quite well playing with Kadri, as I see him with a similar skill set to Nichushkin. It also give both Kadri and Toffee a big body to go to the net.

The other side of that is as you said to get Coronato in the lineup to see what we have, I also want him playing with Pellts being it was mentioned by Matthew that he has been a huge help for him to get used to Calgary already. Don’t underestimate Pellts.

    Last night was big.

Keeps the dream alive. The schedule also presents the Flames with an opportunity in the next two games. ANA and CHI, far from slam-dunk wins for this team.

It's a rare instance where I like having played more games than the team ahead in the standings. Big win for the Jets last night, but they've been an inconsistent operation since the calendar hit 2023. If the Flames can take care of business, at home, against two of the worst in the league, they enter the Jet game tied or ahead in the standings.

Puts the pressure right on the team that's been barely clinging to a playoff spot.

For these next two games would be a perfect opportunity to play Pellts-Ruzie-Scoronato on the 4th line.

Both Anaheim and Chicago are not deep enough to have to worry about a mismatch. And speed against those teams would surprise them on the 4th line
