Nice of TSN to give Lehtonen's save twice the air time as Ramo's

I agree - and I felt the same way about the CGY/DET Round 2 in 2004 as I feel about this matchup. That it's going to be tough to win, but if we do, I see us going all the way to the finals.

I'd rather not be like Edmonton and have the talent up front, but nothing to backstop them. I think our guys have earned an elite goaltender to back them up.

I'd love to see the rotation continue in these playoffs. I felt we should have started Ramo in Game 5. Not that I think the outcome would have changed
  5. Third round makes sense. If we can beat the ducks and then get Gio back, I can see us making the finals. I'm yearning to see a Flames-Canadiens final.
  6. Schlemko has room to improve, sure... but I think he's already surpassed expectations (although is there anyone on the team who hasn't?)

I'd like to see Ramo get the start for Game 5. He deserves some playoff action, it will rest Hiller, and it will give Ramo a chance to get back into his groove should we need him to step up later on.

  9. Bouma played his heart out last year too. I don't think his play this year is because it's a contract year. He gives it all every day - that's just the kind of man he is.
  10. Funny, I thought you were rating the GM's decisions. Since he doesn't know the future, it's unfair to use the future to grade against him. What you should be grading on is whether the decision was the right one to make given the information available at the time. As for Ortio, what makes you think Ortio would sign for 4y at a discount, when he knows in 2y he can command much more? Contracts aren't decided unilaterally.
  11. I don't feel qualified to nit pick Treliving's work to date. I do feel that he's making smart moves and taking risks, while taking appropriate steps to shield us from the consequences should those risks not work out. It strikes me as trying to give a performance review to a new employee after he's just started to produce some results. It's too soon to make a judgement on his performance - all you can really comment on is the general direction he seems to be going. As for being hard on Darth, the biggest reason I had for it is that he gave Treliving poor ratings for well-managed gambles that didn't pay off. Nothing is certain and those gambles were all reasonable and sheltered us well if they didn't pay off. We don't want a GM who's unwilling to take any risks.
  12. Darth, I give your ratings an F. Simply because you don't seem to recognize that there is no gain without risk. Setoguchi was a low-cost gamble. The signing and subsequent handling was done perfectly. He was given a chance to succeed, didn't and was gone. If he had've been signed for more, or for a longer term, then I could agree with a poor rating. Ortio for 2y is also a smart signing. A longer term would necessitate more money, since Ortio and everyone has reason to believe he will be worth more money 2 years from now. But if Ortio didn't work out, then you'd be stuck with a non-performing asset at a high cost. Don't quit your day job. You'd make a terrible GM.
  13. Friend cancelled - kids are sick. Got an extra ticket to the game tonight now!

Ortio was okay but I'm not well sold on him. Ramo's decent as well, but I'm not yet sold that he's a starter. Macdonald I have no faith in. He's okay as a backup for now, but I'd rather have Ortio/someone else for a backup. Of all our positions, I'm the most concerned about goal. If Ramo proves to be up to the challenge I'll be much less worried. I'd rather we hadn't traded Berra and waited to see which one was better.

Ramo has flashes of brilliance but isn't very consistent. Mac is consistent - but nowhere near good enough to be a starter. His rebound control is terrible. All I know is... our goalie situation is worse than our defensive situation.

Do you expect to pull two goalies in one game? If not, then why would you do this?

I thought Ramo did a fairly good job last night. Very few goals were ones you could say he 'should have got', and none were softies. I think his play is stronger than Mac's, and expect to see him start more often.
  18. Feaster - Smarter than Dutter. No trades worth making were available.

  19. The Chara hit was a clean one, it was just extremely poor fortune and timing that the hit happened where it did. Blame the designers who put that stantion there, not Chara

How can an illegal hit be clean?Chara had no business touching Pach.Interference resulting in in injury can't be considered "clean",can it?

Because there are plays which earn a penalty and plays which are dirty, and there's not much overlap.

Think of it this way: It's an illegal play to haul someone down, but if they're about to score a goal, it's a smart play to do so.

Now what if, by freak accident, his throat gets sliced open by an errant skate? Is it suddenly a dirty play?

That is the slippery slope the NHL could be heading for. I totally understand what you're saying.however,Chara guided him into the turnbuckle whereas your example is a freak accident. If you interfere with a player and "guide" him into danger, then it becomes a dirty play imo. This ruling sets a dangerous precedent.
